My letter to the editor regarding this matter will appear in the Washington Times tomorrow (Saturday):
While not a fan of Trent Lott, I feel compelled to respond to the selective outrage regarding his comments at Strom Thurmonds 100th birthday. On May 5, 1993, the Washington Post quoted former President Clintons comments at an 88th birthday ceremony for former Arkansas Senator William Fulbright where Clinton bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom on the man he described as a visionary humanitarian, a steadfast supporter of the values of education, and my mentor."
Of course, the man Clinton was praising was a rabid segregationist. In 1956, Fulbright was one of 19 senators who issued a statement entitled the "Southern Manifesto." This document condemned the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education. Its signers stated, among other things, that "We commend the motives of those States which have declared the intention to resist forced integration by any lawful means."
Fulbright later voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Act. He voted against the 1965 Voting Rights Act. And he did so because he was a segregationist and believed in separating the races in schools and other public places.
More recently, in October 2002, Clinton traveled to Arkansas to dedicate a 7 foot bronze statute to Fulbright, and still nothing from the press admonishing Clinton for honoring a racist.
I'm not making excuses for Trent Lott. He should have apologized for his insensitive comments, and he did. Nor am I making excuses for Strom Thurmond's past. I'm questioning the hypocrisy of selective moral outrage by the Left.

Actually, if this never happened, would he have ever got an hour on BET to talk. I hope he brings a wonderful conservative vision along with his apology.

Black Congressional Congress isn't impressed with Lott's newsconference.
I just heard Maxine Walters say Lott was all other the place today. She also said he should resign and if he doesn't they will fight to make him do so.
Looking forward to Trent Lott's appearance on BET next week.
January certainly looks interesting

"You just cannot make this stuff up..apology #5 on the way!"
Just put an afro wig on the boy and let him try to jive the black public. Democrats have fooled them for a long time. Lets see if Mr. Trent can do it. When the "Sharecropper's son" starts coming out be ready for a long sermon.

Maybe Lott will propose introducing a reperations bill in the Senate.

Anyone see Hannity and Colms? The left is really, really, ready for the nut house. No joke.
The leading NOW Hag was on. She said Lott was a racist because of his hurtful, mean sprited rmarks supporting segragation.
Laura Ingham was on too, and told the NOW Hag the only reason she'd complaining is because Lott is pro-life and against gay marrage, the NOWs real excuse for living.
Well, the poop started rolling out. It was total diareah.
The NOW hag said "Yes, he is a racist, sexist, and homophobe, and because of that he should step down from office. He is not a man who deserves to lead the country"!!!
So......It appears the left demands that If you don't support the liberal left, even though voted in by the American people, you must be "eliminated". Only the left wing abortionist, race baters and lesbians are worthy of powerful positions!!
Even liberal Colms was laughing at her. He couldn't believe what she was saying either. Ingham got her emotional (heh heh heh), and she went crazy!!! You could see her anger seething.
She called Lott "a white right wing extremist racist, sexist and homophobe who doesn't deserve to rule" and everything. She made a total ASS+++ out of herself.
They left keeps making tha rope longer by the day. LOL. Keep talkin'. Keep talkin" We need the votes! LOL

OK, conspiracy theory #439:
Trent Lott did this whole thing on purpose, knowing that, as much as he's hated by the true conservatives in the party (and by vertebrates everywhere), we still wouldn't want him to resign the leadership under pressure from the likes of Al Sharpton, the Revrun JACKsuhn, and the rest of the poverty pimps.
So, he has effectively protected his post as Majority Leader.
Naw, that's just a little too far-fetched... or is it?

I'm tired of this crap about Lott. Too many people are twisting his words around and making him out to be a racist white boy.
Bullsh-t. Everybody knows what he was referring to with Thurmond's 1948 campaign, and it wasn't segregation. While I realize that he has to at least soothe some people, if I were him I wouldn't have even apologized for my remarks. I would have explained them instead. If that isn't good enough, then I wouldn't want your vote anyway.
Lott should remain Senate Majority Leader!

Lott, 61 announced [during the speech] that he was in talks with Black Entertainment Television to deliever and hour long speech next week
Wonder if BET will provide members of the audience with real ripe tomatoes.

appeasement is never a good idea. some people can never be satisfied - they will continue to make war on you even after you surrender unconditionally, even go so far as to exhume and defile your dead. These serial apologies do nothing but feed the enemy more ammo. Lott et alia ought instead to politely but firmly tell the BCC to go piss up a rope.

Apology number 28 and 3/4 (written with the help of the black separatist-segregated caucus)
I Trent Lott hereby declare that am indeed a racist and that the entire republican party is incorrigibly racist, while the democratic party is as pure as the driven snow. And I hereby declare my support for every democrat in the next election, and until that election I will work to enact every bit of the democrats legislative agenda.

Didn't Robert Johnson sell BET out to "whitey" and about as white as OJ Simpson?
Seems to me it is now owned by either Viacom or AOL Time Warner.
Old Trent needs to meet with Shug Knight, Dre, Eminem and Snoop Dog- even tour with them.
Perhaps Trent could star in a black barber shop movie.
Hey, its the hubris, stupid.

I will not watch Trent Lott make yet another fool of himself on BET. Trent Lott seems incompetent, but Jesse Helms says Lott is the best of all the Senate leaders under whom he served for 30 years. It is very hard to get the 51 "Republican" senators together on anything, because some of these people have suspect "Republican" credentials. Yet the 49 Democrats will march in lockstep nearly all the time, with one or two exceptions. But for Trent to keep up these apologies is nauseating to me.

If Lott continues groveling before the minions of the politically correct, then he should resign. In any case, I believe his "helmet hair" will afford him some protection against the likes of JJ and "Reverend" Al Zeppelin.
