I also believe that instant replay has hurt the game and should be abolished. And I admit that I was all for instant replay before it was put into use. Refs are definitely slower to make the call and seem to have the attitude that they can slack off and pick it up on instant replay. Although instant replay was supposed to help put a stop to game changing controversial calls, it seems to cause as much controversy as there was before it came about. I hate it and would love to see it gone. Since I can't do anything about it I will just continue to ROOT FOR THE COLTS. Go Marvin!
For instance, receivers more often have caught the ball, controlled it for two, three and even four steps and fumble the ball when hit. The refs come running in waving their arms and blowing the whistle signaling no catch. Now, go to the sideline and replays show they merely have to have two feet in bounds and possesion at that instant.
In my humble opinion, the problems we see now with the officiating goes a few years back to that whiny person on the rules committee that decided that "the ground can't cause a fumble". Baloney! If after you get hit and you don't get up with the football and hand it to the referee, it's a fumble. If they carry you out on a stretcher, that ball better be tucked firmly under your armpit.
Football was never intended to be a technical game. Ben Davidson never cared if the Quarterback slid feet first. Bart Starr was never saved by the "in the grasp" rule. Johnny Unitas never worried about a "tuck rule". Ray Nitschke couldn't have cared less if the receiver was "defenseless" coming across the middle. Play football and stop ruining the game with all these new Elementary School Rules.
Amen. No one knows what pass interference is, least of all the referees.
That's OK, neither do the refs.
