As you know, the president and his own advisors have said they took the most partisan attempts ever in an election, and it paid off for them. He won a lot of seats.

Isnt that what campaigning is all about?

How odd. I don't remember anyone saying anything like that.

Sounds like Senator Leahy realises it's going to be a long, cold winter for himself and his party.

Good.

When is Vermont going to secede? They seem to threaten it every few years. I say "Go for it, guys!"

Pat Leahy, the most partisan man in Washington, in meltdown.

A thing of beauty.

Show me one time that Leahy criticized Clinton over his very REAL draft-dodging. The ROTC, the deferments, the "loathe the military" comment, etc.

Leahy is oozing desperation and anxiety at this point. Because the GOP controls the senate and his state is represented by two of the most reviled Democratic senators (Jeffords, for abandoning the Republican party -- and Leahy, for his role in blocking Bush's judicial nominations), Vermont is going to be subject to a punishment of near-biblical proportions.

So, Cleland was with us for Viet Nam but he stepped outside when it came to Saddam Hussein.

Who can imagine what his motives might be. Part of it is probably that bad attitude liberals and their friends have with regard to any action on our part that might precipitate democracy, freedom and civil liberties in what had previously been a totalitarian dictatorship.

Max should improve his opinion of what Arabs are capable of. Then he'd get it right this time too.

On the other hand, did Senator Cleland "volunteer" for the Infantry like I did? Or, was he just a draftee, or maybe a ROTC grad? How about Leahy? Did he volunteer for the Infantry? (Need I ask.)

Leahy's saying that about Cleland??

Cleland received the Silver Star and the Bronze Star.

Representative Duke Cunningham flew in Vietnam, was nominated for the Medal of Honor, received the Navy Cross, two Silver Stars, fifteen Air Medals, the Purple Heart, and several other decorations, He was a CO at Navy Fighter Weapons School - Miramar Naval Air Station. His bio is here.

Leahy's a jerk.

He supported a man, for example, in Georgia who was, well, the best way to put it - was a draft dodger who attacked Sen. Cleland on his patriotism.

Sen. Leahy totally misrepresents what Chambliss did in his quote above. Mr. Chambliss attacked Sen. Cleland's voting record, not his patriotism. Sen. Cleland's ACU rating lifetime is a dismal 14, which is only slightly higher than Leahy's truly pathetic 8. Perhaps if Cleland had an ACU rating closer to Zell Miller's 60 he would have won. Gee whiz, Cleland's ACU rating is lower than Jumpin' Jim Jeffords lifetime 27 and barely edges out Dianne Feinstein's 12!!

What a dirty rotten trick, making someone's voting record an issue!

"He supported a man, for example, in Georgia who was, well, the best way to put it - was a draft dodger who attacked Sen. Cleland on his patriotism. And the president joined in that. Sen. Cleland lost both legs and an arm in Vietnam. But the man who avoided the draft several times won.

But gee Senitor D!ckhead, didn't you support Bill Clinton?
