Smacks of a new method of "fundraising" for ME terrorist "charities."
Sounds as if LEO's might be willing to pay off the terrorist/murderer.

I'd say that these 'problems' could be intelligence gathering endeavors.

He was our police cheif here in Eugene, Oregon. He grew tired of the highly charged political conflicts with anarchists, kids in black, and left this highlt liberal town for his "nice quite post in suburban East Coast Virginia.
He probably would trade to get his old job back these days. I feel sorry for him. I like the guy and have chatted more then once with him here. I hope this mess ends well with the sniper's head on a pike.

Kofi does not want us to go after the sniper unilaterally, says we need the OK from France first.

It is not to hard to figure out what is going on.
The cops want to talk to the criminal. The Killer has two objectives from day one. First he must prove he can kill at will. Then he uses that killing power to demand the government to do what he wants. The pitch from the killer goes like this.I can kill at will. You can't stop me. If the government will do what I want. I will stop killing.
What the government tries to do is keep talking. They want to negotitate the killer down to some deal the state can do. Like in the Unabomber case the government got the newspapers to publish the Unabombers message. The Unabombers mom and brother recognized his writings and turned him in.
They hope to make some sort of deal with this killer. If they are talking to him, and negotiating about giving him what he wants the killer has no need to kill. That is enough for now. The killer is afraid of a phone they can trace. So he only talks for a half second at a time. They are trying to negotiate a way to talk to him so they can negotiate.
It is not too hard to figure out. Try paying attention.

Do these cops really think this person will communicate via computer or phone? No way!!! This person has escaped them so far and I doubt he/they will communicate by computer.

These guys are totally ME sobs. I don't think GameBoy tm kids are setting up wire transfersAll signs are pointing to ME terrorism. The authorities in DC do not want to cause an outlash against Muslims though so they are keeping it quiet. The letter has threats of "Extreme Violence" not just shooting anymore now they have upgraded to "extreme"
One lonely gunman does not have the (saudi) resources to do all of this.

A lot of people are getting like the media, they'd rather have the story than get the sniper. Moose has a thankless job now, nothing's good enough without giving every damn detail of what's going on regardless of the fact doing that gives the sniper the advantage and not the cops.

The question really is, are your city officials (where you live) up to the task any more than those in Virginia and Maryland? "Coming soon to a theater near you!"
To: pbear8
off shore wire transfer, he demanded 10 million.

You never signed on for this mess, did you Moose? I was talking to a fellow today about officer Moose's dilemma. Poor guy has a nice suburban civil servants job. Pretty respectable sized police force. Not much heavy lifting in the way of serious crime and then BLAMMO a crazy shooter winds up on his doorstep and he has to face all those idiotic media people every day. And try and solve what is turning into the crime of the century (perhaps)
The guy's public speaking ability is well....limited, he is obviously not a Rhodes scholar and so what. How many local suburban police chiefs could be standing up under the pressure this guy is under? The real question is why is he still running things? Or is he?

not as much as they want him to make a mistake in their contacts with him such that HE MISTAKENLY IDENTIFIES HIMSELF OR HIS LOCATION whereupon they can pounce on him Harry Callahan style.
To: Texas_Jarhead
Me, too. That or when they filled out the disbursement EFT request, it came back unapproved from accounting when they couldn't give the right GL code, checking 'other' box and gave 'VA AQ ransom cash' as a reason.
