It was an attempt at schoolyard intimidation, and it failed miserably. I was totally stunned when it happened.
That had to be an AlGore original. I don't think the DemocRat politcal gurus are that stupid.

I remember that... It certainly didn't help Gore at all...

"It was an attempt at schoolyard intimidation"That is exactly what he was trying to do, and Dubya just gave him a glance as if to say "Yeah Right!" Al Gore would rather walk into a Lions cage with a Pork Chop suit on, than to get up in George W. Bush's face. Dubya would beat him like a second hand Banjo

It was an attempt at schoolyard intimidation, and it failed miserably. I was totally stunned when it happened. That tells you so much about both men. Gore was trying to become the President- the pinnacle of power in the known universe and one of his cathodes fizzed out in a pressure moment and he does something totally idiotic, bizarre and downright rude. Bush on the other hand played it right off and got the audience to laugh at his android opponent. That's grace under pressure. The nation was given a graphic example right there, live on national television- a comparison of the two candidates and their character.
Gore skewered himself with that one. Nobody has ever come up with the "official" reason why he did that? Did Gore ever say why?

Michael Dukakis on a tank.
That's all I'm going to say about that.

I remember thinking at that point in the debate "That looks like a man who needs to get his butt kicked." Then I looked at George Bush and thought "And that looks like the kind of man who could do it." But he didn't. At least not physically.
