"The garden is promised in a future life." Actually, I think we have it here and now, thorns and all. However, a bed of roses is no good for sleeping in.
To: Jim Robinson
You got my answer. The rest is up to you.
No Jim, I don't really think I did. As I said you had assured me some time back that libertarians were welcomed at this site and I was being silly to think otherwise. I'd link the relevant posts but that thread ended up being nuked.
I fully support the mission statement on the front page of FR, Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America. Which is why I started posting here years ago. At no place in there do I read that we only want to root out Democratic fraud and corruption though. I read we want to further conservatism in America, not just the Republican party.
There are many things that the Republican party champions that are in direct conflict with that mission statement, (Some parts of the Patriot Act, the WOD, farm subsidies, etc). Of course there are things that the Libertarian party espouses that I don't agree with either, the big one being "Open borders".
I used to compare you with Doug Thompson (Capitol Hill Blue), somebody who wanted the corruption out of our system of government no matter which party they were affiliated with. This sudden turn of late of overlooking Republican faults has surprised me.
As I've said countless times though, it's your site and you can do with it as you please. If you want this to be nothing more than a cheerleading site for the Republican party then say that it's so.
To: Jim Robinson
The Patriot Act concerns me as well, but one can still support the President and disagree with him on various issues. Some simply can't grasp that concept.
To: rdb3
This begs the question as to why they would be "welcome" on a CONSERVATIVE site. Should they be?I'd make a crack about Repubs being welcomed on a conservative site, but I'm probably flirting with being banned as it is.
To: Jim Robinson
How do you separate the war on terrorism and the Patriot Act? The one originated from the other.
To: FatherTorque
If you want this to be nothing more than a cheerleading site for the Republican party then say that it's so. Father, there are many Republicans who have disagreed with the President, yet can still support him. And yes, even the Bushbots have disagreed with him. It isn't an all or nothing choice- it's picking the right battles.
To: FatherTorque
I think he is saying anyone is welcome, but "here is the framework" of the site. Liberals, Dems, etc., automatically get themselves a ticket out the door because there is no way they can support what he (Jim) laid out in his post as a guide. Some Repubs, LPers and others are probably not able to slip into that shoe, either. So...stick around! Just don't act like a Democrat! LOL
To: FatherTorque
Its a cheerleading site to get rid of the stupid commie democrats! It will take electing ALL REPUBLICANS THIS FALL
and that means no 3rd party spoilers are welcome.
First we need to get control to make the changes that must be made to rid the country of liberal BS!

The Patriot Act concerns me as wellWhat, specifically, concerns you about it?
To: riley1992
Successfully defending the nation from the terrorist scum that attacked us is much more important to me than the Patriot Act.

If advocating, enabling, abetting, making possible, and encouraging the murder of innocent unborn and partially babies is not evil. Pray tell, what under heaven, would you call or consider evil?

That there *could* be an abuse of the intent. I have yet to see any evidence. But it should be closely monitored.
To: FatherTorque
You got my answer. Take it or leave it.
To: FatherTorque
this web site supports President Bush,
supports our national defense efforts (including the war on terrorism),
supports the effort to retake the Senate,
supports the effort to confirm President Bush's judicial appointees,
supports the effort to retake the congressional committees and the legislative agenda from the Democrats and or to increase the majority against the leftist caucus in the House,
supports the effort to oppose the Democrats in every seat and office in the country
and generally opposes the liberal/socialist left. Which of the items listed here do you consider "Republican faults "? Thanks.
To: RedBloodedAmerican
So...stick around! Just don't act like a Democrat! LOLOh I hadn't planned on going anywhere unless Jim asks me to leave, but if the price of admission is Hip Hip Hooraying everything a Republican does then I'd guess my ticket is going to get punched pretty quick.
To: Jim Robinson; riley1992
I will agree with Jim. If it hadn't been for the terrorists, we wouldn't need the Patriot Act. Get rid of the terrorists, and there will be no need for the Act.
To: FatherTorque
You made your position known Padre, now take ten. I agree with your position BTW.
To: RedBloodedAmerican
Which of the items listed here do you consider "Republican faults "? Thanks.I don't remember saying any of those were, I listed a few of the ones I was talking about before. (Some sections of the Patriot Act, the WOD, farm subsidy bill, etc.)
To: riley1992
What really bugs you about the Patriot Act?No abstractions,I want concrete things that are happening now...no Night of Fog and Shadows stuff, actual tangible things, instead of fears and imaginings.Crying wolf in wartime is still crying wolf ;-)
To: Jim Robinson
Now, if people come on to FR spouting smear attacks against our candidates, calling them or us names, insulting us, insulting our positions and or generally working against our goals, then they are probably going to get kicked out. And I don't care what party they claim to be affiliated with. Liberals/socialists and their supporters or enablers are not wanted here and need not apply. Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you!
