He advises that they "make really concerted, concrete efforts from the time boys are really young to develop a relationship with a responsible...surrogate male figure." "It's much, much harder to have a good life if you don't have a good start," he added.
The feminists aren't gonna like this! Why, this man seems to equate having a Man in a boy's life with the concept of "a good start". How prehistoric!

It's now part of the official Hollywood mythology that all a child needs is "love" -- and that "love" can come from most any combination of sexually involved people, even if the partners rotate out once a year.
The truth is, of course, that a child needs a mom and a dad who are committed to each other and the child for life.

And no, Rosie, a lesbian with a butch haircut does not qualify as a "surrogate male figure".

B...B...But we have been told that fathers are not necessary. That single Moms can raise boys all by themselves. This cannot be true.

Thus, we're generating a whole new generation of such
offenders by allowing gay parents (no fathering) to adopt
innocents!

I saw two gay men interviewed this morning who have adopted quads....We'll see how many of these four were "born gay"...

I wonder if these psychological studies have ever ventured into the area of personal responsibility and the astonishing results they might find therein.

The truth is, of course, that a child needs a mom and a dad who are committed to each other and the child for life. That is, of course, the truth. It's common sense, it's what all the great religions teach, and it's what children who don't have such yearn for.

The entertainment industry hates the idea of Fatherhood. Hates it.

I got raised by a single mom. I'd tell you how she is doing, but I havn't talked to her in decades. Last I heard she got dumped by her third husband and isn't doing so well. Too bad.
I would consider "making nice" and looking her up, but then all of those memories of her beating the snot out of me and cursing my father in the most vile ways you could imagine, then saying "and you're just like him" all comes back to me. I'm glad that there's over a thousand miles of distance between where I am and where she is, and I'm glad she has no idea of where I am.
And no, I'm not a sex offender or a criminal or anything. I turned into a workaholic and now I'm pretty much set for life. Funny how things work out sometimes.
Please, spare me the "you should go look her up" or "you should forgive her" replies. It's much better for all concerned that we keep our distance. I'll forgive her when she's dead.

You'll get no arguments from me. Congratulations on overcoming your inauspicious beginnings. You are proof that Nietsche was right: "That which does not kill me makes me stronger."

"Many Sex Offenders Had Bad Fathering During Youth:
I take it that many other sex offenders have had good fathering. There you have it. It's all a matter of personal choice to do good or bad things. Duh!

You don't know that he's proof of any particular philosophy. Perhaps with good parenting, he'd be 10x as rich or 10x as happy or residing in the White House. We can't really know.

"It's much, much harder to have a good life if you don't have a good start," he added. That may be so, but there's nothing in a "bad start" that turns people into lunatics or idiots. There's nothing in a "bad start" that absolves an individual of the obligation not to sexually abuse another human being. There's nothing in a "bad start" that makes an individual incapable of understanding the difference between right and wrong.
It is ironic that those who would scoff at religious determinism find it so easy to accept its secular psychological counterpart. The rest of us may continue to think that free will comes into the equation (I know, I was fated to say that...)

I'm not sure what you can or cannot know. I can know many things.
How parenting impacts the character development of children is one of a class of things that only someone like Dr. Mengele could accurately determine.
