I agree with you in principle. But if taxpayers are already paying for childcare, why shouldn't stay-at-home moms be compensated too? If it encourages moms to care for their own kids while costing exactly the same amount of money it looks like a positive move to me. It would be better if the gov't didn't pay for childcare at all. I didn't see that that was one of the options.
