I've noticed that the whackos have learned to extend their predictions for the end of the world well into the future. The Population Bomb predicted the world would meltdown by 1980 because of incredible over population. Ted Danson (a leading expert on complex environmental systems and toupes)predicted in 1988 that the oceans would be devoid of life within ten years.

Paul Ehrlich has been predicting the end of world for decades. Every ten years when nothing happens, he revises his statement and gets a prestigious award. One of his many false predictions was that England would be under water by 1990. In the 60s and 70s the greenies were saying the world would end in a new ice age, then when it became obvious that wouldn't happen they came up the the global warming theory. Now I'm hearing talk of another ice age again....
