Ridiculous punishment. Their prank pales in comparison to what the priests did to small children in those churches.

Noting that the FCC is responsible for enforcing laws banning "obscene, indecent or profane" broadcast

If the St. Patrick's incident doesn't qualify as "obscene, indecent or (and) profane", we might just as well shut down the FEC.

The re-run had Andrew Dice Clay discussing his relations with his wife....some "alternative". hahaha

I don't think they should be taking their games public like that (except to bars and such perhaps) but everyone knows what that show's about. There's an on/off switch and a dial, folks.

"If these complaints and press accounts prove true, this commission should consider the strongest enforcement action possible against this station, up to and including revocation of the station's license," Copps said.

Just get rid of the "up to" part.

Opie and Anthony - whose real names are Anthony Cumia and Gregg Hughes - chuckled about the arrests on their Friday broadcast. But WNEW management apologized for the incident.

Slugs.

Keep the heat on these jerks by writing the FCC demanding that their station's (not just these bozos program)broadcast licence be revoked. Broadcast station owners need to be reminded that there are consequences to allowing their employees use their regulated broadcast frequencies for public debauchery.

Only when it costs the investor (and management) of a broadcaster something significant, will you see the pressure to shock for ratings let up. Right now it is purely a business decision to run such filth over the airwaves in an attempt to gain marketshare to gain higher advertising rates, thus income. The broadcasters should be free to make such bad management decisions (allowing these bozos to pull stunts link this), but there needs to be harsh consequences for such irresponsibility (broadcast license revokation.) Minor fines are a cost of doing business, thus prove no deterance function when big money is in play.

And most importantly those few advertisers willing to be associated with this program (and station) should be contacted and boycotted if possible. It only takes a small number of well written complaints for a company to realize that sponsoring such abuses of the public airwaves is not good for their business reputation.

Pardon my ignorance but just who are these guys? I don't mean explain the story about St. Pats to me because I've read all about it. But...who are these guys? Where are they on the radio? What city or cities are they broadcast in? Does this stunt pretty much represent the level of alleged humor on their show. And why do I get the feeling that no matter where they are, this stunt in New York is going to be brought up again by them at contract renewal time as justification for a larger salary?

I'm glad to see this. The FCC has been shirking its responsibilities for way too long now.

"The couple now claims not to have known the significance of St. Patrick's, but I'm sure that even if that's true, they were "steered" toward the big Catholic church on Fifth Avenue)."

They must be liberals - see - it wasn't their fault either - THEY WERE VICTIMS - ick.

I would love to hear "And now a word from our sponsors"....hisssss.....static.... as the outcome of this "stunt" (debauchery is more appropo, but, hey, the media can't get anything right)....

I believe that the station needs to lose it's license. To help accomplish that goal, here is the FCC's complaint page, including addresses and procedures to file a written complaint:

Or, if you prefer, here's the page with phone numbers and e-mail addresses:

From an AP report in the WashPost:

FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, saying he had received hundreds of outraged phone calls and e-mails, promised that the complaints were "on the fast track" for consideration by his agency.

If they prove true, he said, "this commission should consider the strongest enforcement action possible against this station, up to and including revocation."

Apparently Fox News and the FCC have come to the same conclusion I did, that yanking the station's broadcast license will be the only thing that keeps these jerks from doing these offensive stunts even more egregiously. Don't blame the shock jocks, blame their bosses that allow (rather encourage) them to pull stuff like this.
