The Atkins low-carb, high-fat diet is supposed to be simple, but it's raising complex medical and nutrition questions. Now two new studies show that those who follow the diet can lose significant amounts of weight, but other research is raising concerns about the safety of the program, linking it to an increased risk of kidney stones and bone loss.

I read where Italians typically consume 2/3 cup a day. I don't know about that but uncooked olive oil is a key to satiation in their diets I expect.
Don't forget the garlic!
Assuming the "studies" are even anywhere near accurate (a gigantic if), the solutions are simple: lithotripsy and Tums.
And not a word of this article questions the naysayers, as usual: How do THEY explain the fact that even though more low-fat foods are available today than ever, and more people partake of such options more than ever, we as a nation keep on getting fatter? These oh-so-brilliant researchers and nutritionists have brainwashed us all into following diets that cause us to gain weight, often in massive quantities. Either give us a direct, 100% proven answer to that - no theories - or GET THE F OUT!
The Atkins book does not tell people to "sit on their asses." It quite clearly explains that you should be on some sort of exercise regiment, both for general health reasons and because it will help you lose weight faster.
Nor, by the way, does it say that "you can eat as much as you want, as long as it doesn't contain carbohydrates!" The book states that you should only eat a normal sized dinner; I believe Atkins says "you should eat until you feel satisfied, but not until you're full. In other words, stop eating at the point where you can say to yourself, 'Okay, I'm not full, but I have had enough to satisfy myself without ending up hungry again a half hour later.'"
When you eat them, make sure that King Olaf is on the can <>--<)B^).
