The Idaho incident you are referring to was a fire, not a collapse. 91 miners died of smoke inhalation (the fire was at the worst possible point -- right near one of the ventilation shafts -- so the giant fans used to ventilate the mine actually pushed the smoke all the way through the mine). There were two guys who survived for more than a week in a remote corner of the mine before they were rescued.
