Something about the Smart case has not seemed right from the start. What a contrast between the cases. I cannot help but think that, wether it was the police or the Smarts, the case was poorly handled from the start, and accordingly has led nowhere.

Look at what an accurate portrayal of the perp led to in Sam's case. In the Smart case, no one knows who they are looking for.
What a shame. I do not recall a larger mobilazation of people in any similar case. Wasted.

I still keep coming back they are trying to sweat somebody in or close to the Smart family.

You are asking the same questions I did. The whole thing smelled from the beginning and it's still smelling. Let's not forget the police. True, they weren't immediately called, but what have they been doing since that time? Just sitting and waiting for Ricci to "spill the beans"? They seem to pooh-pooh everything but Ricci. Why haven't they been searching for Liz? Something's wrong here. What about that PA van spotted in Nebraska? What happened to it?

I think Uncle Tom is more the villain than the father. When something "happens," Tom is usually the one involved.

I, too, think the Enquirer's article has a lot of truth to it; my feeling was that Liz was taken by some gay/gays who wanted to send a message to the father/Tom and the other brother. I do think she's still alive.

Then there's the matter of a kidnapper knowing exactly where the child's bedroom is.

I am in Ohio and I don't know anything about Utah, but here, almost anyone in construction would know that a floor plan and plot plan are filed to get a building permit. These blueprints can be viewed and copied by the public and are open to the public.

I think the police in the Smart case are clueless, and they floated the story that only someone that knew the family or a family member might be involved because the abductor knew where the child slept. I have also noticed they are not stressing that point any longer.

I would construct a list of everyone that has ever been in that house. Since the father built the house and contracted the work out he could put a list together easily enough. The idea that this was a staged elopement can't be overlooked as well.

This alleged "gay" porn found on the Smart computers.. this collection of supposed sexual perversion would destroy them in the Mormon community if proven to be true. When Mr Smart was questioned on it, his answer was not something a "normal" person would say, (in my opinion anyway).

Instead, he said something like.. it's irrelevant or nothing to be concerned with. Someone else might say "that's absurd" or "yeah, so what. I had porn on my computer. Who cares!"

I never heard Ed Smart's reply to the gay porn issue. Is this really what he said?

Good opening post--good thread. The swiftness and sureness with which the SoCal authorities have acted in apprehending a killer/kidnapper have made us all aware of a significant deficiency in the SLCPD. Why, oh, why, no sketch, from a 9 yr old, who is even more observant and articulate than a 5 yr old? Why the footdragging by Dinse? Why the mad chases all over the country seeking the wrong people?

TG the Smarts are staying off TV. Their increasingly bizarre statements and faux letters and emails were distracting, to say the least. Then again, perhaps that is their intent-- to distract the public from the true perps -- "trusted members of the community".
