Sale of ammunition to Palestinians by soldiers described as 'tip of the iceberg'
Israel Insider ^ | 7/18/2002 | Israel Insider

An IDF reserves officer was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of being involved in the sale of ammunition and weapons to Palestinians. Two days ago, four soldiers, residents of the settlements of Adora and Telem, were arrested for allegedly selling ammunition to a Palestinian in the Hebron area. Police suspect that some of the ammunition may have been used in the terrorist attack in Adora in April, in which four Israelis were murdered in their homes.

Senior officials familiar with the case believe that additional arrests will be made. They told Maariv that the sale of ammunition to Palestinian terrorists uncovered by the police was "only the tip of the iceberg," and said that they expected "additional discoveries that would shock everyone."

Meanwhile, in another case, two Israeli soldiers were arrested on suspicion of attempting to break into a Civil Guard base in Kfar Saba with intentions of selling weapons to an Arab weapons dealer

Treason in times of war is punsihable by death.

Am I correct in this?:
One does not have to be Hebrew to be an Israeli citizen, (there are Arab citizens of Israel).
All eligible citizens must serve in the IDF.
Therefore, some members of the IDF are not Israeli Hebrews, but Arabs who may have no stake in helping to keep the Nation of Israel secure.
I know there are Arab Jews, and there are non-Hebrew Israelis - doesn't this pose a problem for the IDF?

Amen to that. Preferably death at the hands of terrorist victims' families.

Read the entire article. It is very clear that these soldiers are Israeli Jews.

Firing squad for treason works for me, but I don't believe anyone has ever been executed for treason in Israel. They will probably be sentenced to prison for a shorter term than Aryeh Deri.

If I remember correctly, there is no death penalty in Israel, except for Holocaust criminals. If I were them I would rethink that policy. These "men" are selling the bulletts used to kill their own people.

Those arrested seem to have Russian names. Wonder if the Russian mob may be involved? And maybe these are just half Jews who have no real stake in Israel but just wanted out of Russia?

So they betray their nation?

Or people portrayed as such because the Israeli government thinks its people need a history lesson.

From what I heard, Israeli Arabs do not have an obligation to serve in the IDF. That is frequently cited as an illustration how the Israeli Arabs have all the civil rights but less civil obligations. I don't know if they can volunteer.

Oh please. You are the person who had a total melt-down on me because I was in my thirties! The more rationally I talked to you, the more freaked-out you got. Several people privately freepmailed me, asking me what your major malfunction was.

Nonsense. The only person ever executed by the Israelis was Adolf Eichmann.

Hint: Abe Foxman isn't running Israel.

Annalex is right. Israeli Arabs have restricted rights in terms of military duties, depending upon their religious/ethnic background. Druze are conscripted like other Israelis. Beduin (although Muslims - at least on paper) are welcome to serve. Christians may serve, but have to apply and be approved. Muslim Israeli Arabs are usually kept out of the army, even if they do apply. Many social security provisions, and University places etc., in Israel depend upon having served in the IDF, so it impacts on them in various ways.

Russian names

Koby Oliel
Moshe and Nadav Cohen
Roie and Sela Amar
Oded Molay
Rotem Parnas
Yochai Yifrach

None of them look Russian, or even East/Central European Jewish (Rubinstein, Kaganovich) to me.

That's not just my interpretation, it's Yoram Sheftel's. You probably disapprove of him (though might not have threatened or attacked him like some of the zealots did) but he did turn out to be correct, and showed more testicicular fortitude than all the Kachers and Hamasers on Earth combined in the process.

"Wonder if the Russian mob may be involved?" I think yes. There has been stories about this in the Arab media for ages. The Palestinians say "we buy our weapons from the Israelis". Apparently from organised crime circles, and they are often from Russia, also (it is said) Turkey, Rumania, the Balkans etc. They come to Israel, and many making specious claims to be Jews. When they have their passport they are inclined to move on to the USA, or other First World nation.

Nonsense. The only person ever executed by the Israelis was Adolf Eichmann.

John Demjanjuk was sentenced to death by an Israeli court with marsupial tendencies for allegedly being "Ivan The Terrible". If not for an extremely courageous Israeli lawyer named Yoram Sheftel, who proved that he could not possibly have been this person, he probably would have been executed.
