After Mowbray criticized the visa program in a series of reports, Secretary of State Colin Powell asked for the resignation Wednesday of the department's top consular official, Assistant Secretary of State Mary Ryan.

According to Mowbray, a department official met him in the hallway as he attempted to leave the briefing early and said politely that he needed to answer some questions. Mowbray said he had a lunch appointment but was told again that he needed to respond to questions.

I am deeply troubled about the prevailing perception in the media and within Congress and possibly the American public at large that our current practices represent a shameful and inadequate effort on our part

He's deeply troubled. But he doesn't deny a word of it. Interesting!

I wonder how many millions the Saudis are going to have to shell out to the White House and State Department to keep the status quo.

I think a few million will do. What is a few thousand American peasant deaths to them anyways.

I'm actually VERY surprised the reporter wasn't secretly locked away under provisions of the USA Patriot Act.

"He didn't go to Columbia Journalism School. He's just aggressive and has a good nose for things."

Translation: He's a mutt who knows how to hunt out a story just like the pedigree.

Powell should be the one resigning. Guy looked actually hurt that he couldn't negotiate a false peace with the terrorist Palestinians.

He is letting them get behind us with a knife, rather than defending us. What type of a soldier is that?

John Loftus, appearing on FR Radio this week, details the "renting" of the State Dept. by the Saudis in his book "The Secret War Against the Jews."

Just so you know the Washington Post also covered the story. Did not see the FBI question them.

While the cable from U.S. ambassador Robert Jordan to the State Department was classified, The Washington Post had reported its contents Thursday. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< snip >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The FBI appears to be Banned from all things Saudi.

Mowbray, an online columnist who joined National Review a few months ago, is clearly an activist on the issue.

And when the WP covered it, they of course were journalists. When a National Review columnist sticks his neck out for what he (rightly) perceives to be the good of the country, he is "clearly an activist." As if "activist" is a dirty word in the liberal press.

"I'm actually VERY surprised the reporter wasn't secretly locked away under provisions of the USA Patriot Act."

Rediculous. It had already been reported in the the Washington Post.

"While the cable from U.S. ambassador Robert Jordan to the State Department was classified, The Washington Post had reported its contents Thursday."

The State Department is screwing up badly. Who ever was responsible for detaining this reporter should be fired, and if Colin Powell can't do better at controlling the bureaucracy he needs to be replaced as well.

"He's a mutt who knows how to hunt out a story just like the pedigree."

Actually they don't teach investagative journalism at Columbia, only how to be politically correct. In "hunting out a story" this 'mut' is is much better than the 'pedigreed'.

Thanks!

The only question I have is why are ANY visas being given to Saudis?

Close our borders.

Stop granting visas.

Deport all non-citizens!
