I've got some text overlap on this post. Are you getting freaky with the CSS layout?

This article was educational (and I think has been posted at least in part on FR before, but I can't find it right now): Prominent Canadian Fluoridation Proponent Changes Mind.

Note that high US obesity rates might be at least partially related to flouride consumption - has to do with flouride getting in the way of iodine absorption in the thyroid, impacting thyroid production and metabolism. (Flouride was once used to kill off overactive thyroid. Now we get it in our water.) Countries in Europe with less obesity also do not flouridate H20.

For me, the issue isn't whether flouride is a medically sound dental-decay preventative. It is whether it is proper to force everyone to drink it because some people believe it is a medically sound dental-decay preventative. I don't believe forced medication with flouride is proper.

On the advice of close personal friends who also happen to be dentists, my wife and I have always given our children flouride tablets and not one of them has ever had a trace of dental decay, nor is any of them less than healthy in any other way. Whether this is due to flouride I really can't say. However, the tablets are easy to get and they are dirt cheap. If a community is concerned about a "plague" of dental caries, instead of force-medicating everyone in the community, why not make the tablets available at the local county health agency?

People who oppose flouride have been ridiculed, and wrongly so in my opinion.

I vote to get rid of this nutjob crapola, or at least move it to "chat." Kookburger material in the category of vapor trails.

I could never understand the uproar over flouridation -- my father (God rest his soul) was a conspiracy theorist of the first order and he thought it was all a communist plot, which I thought a little strange. I mean why would the communists want us all to have strong teeth?

This is part of a China-backed effort to create a flouride scare to energize unwitting US environmental activists against flouride salts for another, unstated reason. Flouride is needed to make a type of nuclear reactor that would enable the US to turn a waste product into a valuable commodity and ease one of the factors that make rare earth mining environmentally prohibitive... thorium waste in the tailings.
