The David Westerfield trial

Testimony is scheduled to resume Tuesday. The judge will hear more motions tomorrow.

KEY TESTIMONY DURING THE fourth WEEK of trial

Hairs the same color and length as Danielle van Dam's were discovered in David Westerfield's bedroom. Grayish-brown hairs found in his house and motor home were similar to those collected from the van Dams' dog.

A computer forensics expert said 8,000 pornographic computer images found in Westerfield's house included bestiality and cartoon videos depicting young girls being sexually assaulted.

An orange polyester fiber found in Danielle's plastic necklace was similar to fibers found in Westerfield's laundry and bedding.

A police canine handler testified that his dog, which is trained to find cadavers, reacted to a compartment on Westerfield's motor home.

Witnesses

James Watkins, a San Diego police computer forensics examiner, said 85 of the thousands of pornographic images found on disks and computers in Westerfield's home appeared to be child pornography.

Mitchell Holland, lab director of the Bode Technology Group in Virginia, testified that DNA from hair found in the sink of Westerfield's motor home and from a bloodstain on the motor home's carpet matched Danielle's DNA.

Jim Frazee, a canine handler with the Sheriff's Department, said a dog trained to look for cadavers sat, made eye contact and barked outside a storage compartment on Westerfield's motor home.

KGTV's San Diego News (cable) Channel 15 will broadcast the trial beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, with KUSI/Channel 51 starting its coverage at 10 a.m. KUSI will have a one-hour recap of the trial beginning at 9 p.m. KFMB/Channel 8 will have a half-hour wrap-up at 7:30 p.m. KNSD/Channel 39 plans hourly updates, with live coverage if warranted.

On radio, continuous coverage can be heard on KFMB-AM 760 and KOGO-AM 600.
