You mean if you were African-American you would offer thanks to God for the African blacks who sold you into slavery. For some reason, that always gets left out of the argument.

A candid photo of three Blacks demanding reparations:

Gee, if it's as successful as the Million Man March that turned all those "african american men" into responsible, caring fathers, then I say WE DON'T HAVE A DAMN THING TO WORRY ABOUT, AND DON'T TAKE OUT THE CHECKBOOK YET!!!

It'll be a carnival. They'll all holler at whitey and shake black power fists and disperse and head back home. It won't be any different the day after than it will be when they attended the rally. No one cares. It's an instant race riot in the making if any whites show up. Even if they don't, it's almost certain that this type of crowd will generate at least a few dozen robberies, rapes, and/or fist-fights, similar to the Peurto Rican parades in NYC.

The "go back" argument doesnt' make sense if one sits and thinks about it for ANY amount of time...True, but then neither does the reparations argument. Answering their poor arguments with similarly odd logic that results in a situation that the reparations crowd dislikes seems like fair game for the debate. Now, it's not exactly 'taking the high road' the we ought to be using, but it does communicate the stupidity of the reparations argument, and the passion of those who oppose it.

Hubby and I have befriended a 20 year old immigrant man named Abraham, who is (literally) one of the "lost boys of the Sudan." He is from the Dinka tribe, which is the same tribe Manute Bole (very tall ex-NBA player) is from. Muslim soldiers murdered his father and several of his siblings because they're Christians. Before coming to the U.S. last year, Abraham spent 10 years floating from one refugee camp to another in Africa (eventually run off each time by Muslim soldiers because he is a Christian).
Abraham is the nicest, hardest-working, polite and humble person I've met in a long time. After only one year year he's learned English, is about to get his GED, and has found an employer who will reimburse him for college tuition. During Abraham's last visit to our home, he mentioned that he and his roomates (other "lost boys" from the Sudan) have encountered outright hostility from several American blacks they've encountered here. He asked us why American blacks have been so mean to them--he really doesn't understand.
I knew what I should have said but held my tongue: "This doesn't apply to all American blacks, but here's what's happening: Many American blacks don't like you because you're hard-working, you don't whine, and you don't blame everyone who isn't black for your problems. In other words, your work ethic and success proves that the NAACP poverty pimps are full of sh*t with their reparations/racism whine-a-thon."

Yes, samtheman, but blacks would say that "you can say that because you are NOT black." Being black is becoming an avocation, if not a profession, for many "African Americans." I suspect that many African Americans would have trouble finding Africa on a map, considering the kind of "teaching" going on in today's "schools." In time, I think this reparations idea will gain support. I foresee the day in 10 years when leading Republicans will come out for reparations they way Strom Thurmond and Howard Baker did for DC statehood in 1978 and the way many did (not Jesse Helms) for the MLK Holiday bill in 1983.

Manute Bole spent his NBA fortune trying to help his people. I'd say that that group of souls that you describe are winners no matter what their race. Hope it goes well for them.

I, as a tax paying citizen, have no objection to the government giving you a one-way ticket back to Africa. But a tip before you go, those BLACK people in Africa cannot stand American Negroes. The worthlessness of American NAACP-style blacks goes way beyond color - and Africans know it.

I support reparations with the following: Anyone who has been agrieved will be GIVEN FREE ONE WAY PASSAGE BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM!

What an idiotic comment! Subsidized housing for low-income Americans (regardless of color) has been around since long before GWB even entered politics. Your comment is about like saying, "Well golly, if dubya is willing to pay for Medicare, then he'll probably socialize the whole health care system." Yep, look how well LBJ's socialistic dream did! We still have the most beautiful slums in the world! But hell since it was around before 'W', then lets let all liberal things stand. More abortion and gun control right? Just because it was before Bush, doen't make it good or right. Thanks to Medicare, medical care is more expensive! See gang bangers don't seem to care about insurance when they get shot and admitted to Trama Centers. Guess who pays? But golly, you seem sharp, so you tell me. If Karl Rove takes a poll and finds out that 90% of minorities would vote for Bush and Republicans, you doubt for 1 second he wouldn't sugggest doing it?

You apparently missed the point. You suggested that because the President "supports" subsidized housing that he would probably approve reparations. This Non Sequitor is ridiculous.
To: VRWCmember
Wrong! You didn't read the quote!
Only thing that scares me is that if Bush is willing to substadize housing for blacks, then he'll probably pay these jackasses reparations
Bush is buying votes! He is locking up the Hispanic vote, but he still doesn't have the Black vote. So he's announcing tax-payer substidized grants and loans for 5.5 million blacks and other minorities (read buying Democrat votes at taxpayer expense. There a Million Man Slavery Reparation March in August. Lets see if Bush doesn't suck up at our expense for a few votes!

Can I have some money, too? Sure, step in line behind me. My descendants were bagpipe players from Scotland.

To heck with it, let's just go have a pint!
To: luckodeirish
How about 2 pints. Can't let a good thing get away now can we?
To: Brownie74
Good point. I was thinking small. Excuse the blunder! LOL
To: rdb3
Thanks for the ping. There are too many statements on FR pertaining to "Black" issues that strengthen the hand of the reparations crowd. That's OK- it is better that it be brought out now and dealt with. It will either result in growth or some "true colors" will be exposed.
