Your post rests upon the premise that a congressional declaration of war would somehow prevent us from protecting ourselves, correct? This has been the entire case of the opposition on this thread, and to be honest it makes no sense to me.

Please explain, in vivid detail, why this is so. Why shouldn't Congress take one day, or even one hour, to pass a declaration of war? How would a declaration of war aid our enemies???

We don't want a pacifistic response to terrorism, we want a declaration of war to go with our military response. It's the proper, constitutional response to acts of war against us. It is Congress's duty, and we demand they do their job. We want to fight and we want to do it the right way. Why is that so hard to understand? Do you really think the enemy would be happy if war was declared against them?

If someone, anyone, can answer these questions, I would be infinitely greateful. I believe this is the core of the issue.

Im a realist, not a legalist, altho those lines smudge together. What I see in here doesn't add up to me re: we need a formal declaration of war. I don't think we can agree becuz we just can't. I hear your argument but it seems whiney to me . No disrespect but we were attacked on our soil. We do not have a specific country to blame as the terrorist networks crosses all int'l borders and uses many different countrymen to do its dastardly deeds. You seem caught up in legalisms. I am not. It does not mean I don;t support the Constitution, I have sworn an oath and have served this country, and if called to do so again , would.
