"I don't trust this weapon (surveillance) in the hands of corrupt men."

Fair enough, but remember this:
Every weapon is dangerous
in the hands of a corrupt man (or woman, come to that).

It's not the weapon, whatever its nature or type,
but the wielder of whom we should be wary.

The FBI is corrupt.
The ATF is corrupt.

I don't trust those people with such a broad power.
Without privacy, freedom is impossible.

Yes, I'm wary.

Sometimes I wonder what the Germans living in Germany in 1938
thought about the rise of the German state -
I wonder if any of them had any thoughts similar
to what I think about our imperial federal police state?

Some did.
Most didn't think, but just accepted what they were told.

The ones who could think looked around and thought,
"What's going on?!!
Am I the only one who can see this?"

They weren't alone, but they didn't know that
because they were afraid to talk
about the injustice all around them.

So they watched,
and kept their thoughts to themselves,
and lost their freedom.
