"California politicians, high-dollar Oracle execs and Gray Davis fall guys play out a courtroom drama worthy of a David Kelly/Steven Bochco production.
The scandal involving Silicon Valley-based database software behemoth Oracle and California Democratic Governor Gray Davis embattled tech office became more like an episode of a TV show plenty of drama involving a powerful corporation, a politician running for reelection, big money changing hands, heated discourse during senate hearings, conflicting testimony, hastily called press conferences
Throw in some square-jawed actors and impossibly beautiful actresses pretending to be lawyers and put this show on Thursday nights at 8pm!"

Will Gray Davis' administration be able to slither under the radar or can Bill Simon make this a campaign issue?

Good question ... Maybe if the media gave Simon some airtime ... we might find out

taxaholic bump - also does anyone know if Gov. Davis has released his mental medical health records? I no longer wonder if he is deranged or that he has "lost it" it appears to be evident. I think the question for the Big Lie Industry would be: Did Governor Davis suffer his mental breakdown BEFORE he took office or was his collapse due to the pressures of 911 readiness and the energy crisis? Also when did the California legislature first learn of Governor Davis' breakdown? And what is the procedure for removing an impaired Governor? Thank you I'll take your answers off the air...

I'm not sure how far this will go as it involves a bigger scandal -- "No Bid" contracts awarded by the government. Neither side wants to see these go away as its the easiest way to reward your supporters w/o much fanfare.

Wasn't their CEO trying to exploit the 9-11 Massacre to push a Big Brother card contract?

Dan Walters from the Sacramento Bee has been all over this story. I must admit that I'm surprised how he has nailed Davis to the wall on this, and he's from one of the worst newspapers on the west coast.
But alas he claims the fix is on! The panel is controled by the Dems and Davis has his protectors in place, and Walters says he walks away untouched as usual.

Yes, your memory is correct.

Davis has reportedly instituted changes which would require bids on all contracts over $100K.

Thanks for posting, I searched around and came up with
this article which states that Davis has ordered a ban on all no-bid contracts over $100k like you said.

The media has essentially "written off" Simon because he doesn't fit their idea of a "good" Republican.
The fact is, Simon has consistently spoken out against Gray Davis' blatant "pay for play" administration. In fact, he was speaking out against it before the Oracle scandal broke. The press can't ignore Davis' corruption any longer, but they're not giving Simon any print.
Davis' unapproval rating continues to be high, and that's great. They won't get any better over the summer. Then, Simon can jab him in on the air as well as sell himself as a viable alternative.
Simon is a good candidate, not that we would know this from how the press talk about him. He took out Richard Riordan by nearly 19 points when the political pundits and liberals kept saying Simon wouldn't even get out of single digits. Simon didn't have the support of the press in the Primary, he isn't going to have it in the General.
It's up to us to keep getting the word out about Gray Davis and, when people are thoroughly disgusted, we tell them that we have a great alternative, Bill Simon, a Republican, a conservative, and someone who won't use the corner office as a campaign fundraising machine.
Go Simon!

I am confident that a debate or two will allow the electorate of California to make up their own minds about who best can lead this state back onto the path to fiscal and moral solvency ..
Some say , Why Simon , he isn't a politician first it appears.. I say Why Not someone who isn't beholden to the institutions and the lobbyists and skrews the people he was elected to protect and serve?
Look at the status quo . Are we being served or is the money doing the talking in ol'GraYout's regime?
To: NormsRevenge
I agree with you ... I think that people are more likely to vote against the status quo this year in California than with it, because the status quo is corrupt.
Davis is not good in debates. He's wooden, ala Al Gore. Of course, California voted for Al Gore, but Davis has 10 times worse baggage and has run our state into the ground at the same time as stuffing his campaign coffers with cash at the expense of working families.
We need to get rid of Davis.
