Good-bye, Gumbel!
The American Partisan ^ | 5/17/02 | Robert Yoho

Posted on 05/18/2002 5:32:38 AM PDT by Clintons-B-Gone

As he prepares to leave CBS’s The Early Show, it is time that we remember the man who is Bryant Gumbel. Throughout his broadcast career, there has never been a more mean-spirited individual in the media. I must admit that I will be delighted to see him disappear from morning news.

Gumbel is one of the most hateful, bitter partisans that I have ever seen in broadcasting. He makes no attempt to appear unbiased in his politics. Gumbel is the epitome of "unprofessionalism." He is rude to his guests, unkind to his colleagues, unfaithful to his wife, and disrepectful of the viewing public. With an ego as big as Texas, everything is about him.

Gumbel has not only been rude to those who appear on his shows, he has been obnoxious to his fellow workers. It has been reported that Gumbel was single-handedly responsible for Jane Pauley’s exit from NBC’s Today Show. In an internal memo, he lambasted the work of the immensely popular and definitely more likable Willard Scott. And as was his custom, he took the show’s ratings into the tank.

One of the most disgusting things I have ever seen in journalism occurred when I once saw him interviewing Pat Buchanan. Gumbel had just returned from vacation and Buchanan said to him, "Welcome back, Bryant."

Gumbel’s reply was something like this: "Too bad I can’t say the same for you."

It matters not what you think of Pat Buchanan. Common courtesy demands that a gentleman treat a guest with some respect, particularly when that guest has just made a polite comment about the host. But not Bryant Gumbel! The man is classless! He is bigger than the network; he is bigger than propriety: he is bigger than everybody.

In an interview with Tim Russert, Gumbel once stated, "In terms of my political views, I hold them in check. I don’t think that someone who watches is inclined to think that I’m one way or the other."

Really, Mr. Gumbel! The evidence would suggest otherwise.

He said that blacks have a right to be "suspicious" of the Republican Party because it is populated by Bob Barr, Pat Buchanan, Jesse Helms, and Jerry Falwell. Gumbel said Associate Justice Clarence Thomas does nothing but "rubber stamp Scalia." He said the president’s father, George Bush, had "exacerbated race relations in this country." When Robert Knight of the Family Research Council appeared on the show to speak out against homosexual Boy Scout leaders, Gumbel was caught live on camera calling the man a "f***ing idiot."

President George W. Bush has not escaped the patented and partisan tirades of Bryant Gumbel. While on the air, he said Bush had "done very little" to correct the problems on Wall Street and that the markets "now miss Bill Clinton and Bob Rubin."

No, Mr. Gumbel. I could not tell by your comments that you are a proud and unrepentant liberal. You hide your views so well, I could not determine who you voted for in the last three presidential elections. I am totally at a loss to guess which political party has your loyalties. If Gumbel is unbiased, then the Pope is a Baptist!

In case you have missed the point of this column--in case I have been too subtle--I do not like Bryant Gumbel. I will not watch him on television. I will not frequent a program that has him as a host.

As Bryant Gumbel leaves The Early Show, I have only three things to say to the only person on television more rude and obnoxious than Rosie O’Donnell: Good-bye, good luck, and good riddance!

Now that CBS has surgically removed this media hemmorhoid from their network, their troubles are all behind them.

It has always been amazing to me that the people who run the networks would rather have their ratings tank than put on someone who is conservative.

I agree 100%-the Willard Scott issue was insane.scott is a person who brings a real human touch to morning programming and never injected his political views.Gumbel is much worse than Rosie O'Donnell-she doesn't pretend to be a journalist and at least she has some sense of humor, and even admitted she was wrong on guns to O'Reilly.I still can't stand her,but Gumbel is truly the pits. It's strange that his brother doesn't seem to have a chip on his shoulder-you'd hardly believe they were related.

From where I come, putting the name of Gumbel and Texas in the same sentence are fighting words.

I watch the show Survivor and every Friday they have on the contestant who got voted out the night before.

On Friday Sean Rector was the ousted Survivor, he is a black man from NYC who now is a teacher in LA. While Sean may have felt some pressure on the show being one of two blacks he held himself well and managed to stay on the show longer then expected.

On Bryants last show Friday he had no trouble injecting race into Sean Rectors ousting and tried prodding Rector into stating which other contestants were racists. Rector didn'' buy the bait but then Bryant and him engaged in a little diatrabe of how their should be a show with all black contestants or possible all black and puerto ricans with just 2 white contestants.

It was pretty lame but typical for Bryant.

Yeah, I hear ya. The arrogant ASS has his own program on the Food Network. Something about eating around the world, all from New York City (or something equally as self-righteous)... The jerk needs to be sent off on permanent assignment to South America or somewhere equally miserable.

I never saw a lot of Gumbel (thankfully), but I knew enough to judge that he isn't a positive contribution to humanity. Too bad he thinks otherwise.

Friday was a very good day for network TV. Or, I suppose, for those that watch network TV.

Adios to Gumbel and buh-bye to Bill Maher. Maher gave his little farewell speech last night.

So, Gumbel and Maher are gone for now. Between the two of them network TV has lost 5 inches. If you know what I mean.

D'oh! I stand corrected. My apologies for mixing Al Roker up with Bryant Gumbel. (I'm sure Al isn't NEARLY as bad as Bryant is).

Now it's time for me to go get more coffee, so I don't make this mistake again.

Bryan Gumbel, a man that could have had it all, had he not fell into the racist mold that his socialist handlers led him to. Bryan had a talent, but he was unable to use it. It's a shame that he didn't cultivate that talent, instead of becoming a socialist. Just a shame!

Hence Fox News, which strives to be a truly objective source of infomration. Hence talk radio, where the market rules. Hence the major media hemmorhaging viewers because they refuse to accept the possibility that their liberalism alienates more and more people seeking unbiased news.
