People have a right to choose to be offended, but they don't have the right to suppress the speech that offends them. You and I are definitely on the same page, and I agree with you 110% on that point.

Of course, it appears Mr. Rae would have then been charged with murder as a "hate crime." Perhaps, but likely only if he used "the word".

Nowadays, many African-Americans arent even particularly offended when whites use the word, implies black comedian Chris Rock. I've heard some few that accept it from certain specific friends fo theirs. Anyone else says it and the whole bunch of them will beat the snot out of whoever said it.

I personally have a problem with the word. I've found that most whites that use it on a regular basis tend to be what I call white trash. However, I do have a question. You said that most black people would be offended. How is it that it is so prevalent in the rap music? I was sitting next to a car the other day at the stoplight and this guy was sharing his music with anyone within a 50 foot range. Besides the language I also noticed quite a few times that the rapper in question did use that word.

As for me? Someone looked at me once and said, "You never have to lay a finger on anyone. You're so damn big that one look at you will silence anyone, period."

I think it is funny that people get so upset with the word, "nigger". It's bizarre to see, "N-word" or "N----r". It's just a word, it won't bite. No, it's not a "nice" word, but I think it condescending to American blacks to be so oversensitive.

I'm glad Rae seems to have a good attorney. This is a good example of a "bonfire of the vanities". Pray you never get caught up in a PC mess like this. His wife is attacked, and the perp gets off because he's black. And to top it off, the DA charges the husband with a felony!

10-4, LOL. Then it's plain old "justifiable homicide."

Manly can attack a woman, but cry like a baby when he gets called a name.

Anyone calls me BOY and I`m going to say thanks for the complement.I was a little irritated at the woman at the drug store who refused to sell me cigarettes without an ID as I am 50 and don`t look a day under 49!

I don't call myself a "Yankee".Yeah, but it's better to be a Yank-ee than a Yank-er.:-)

Then I guess you wouldn't mind if I referred to your mother as a twenty-dollar whore, then, right?

I'm beginning to think calling you "a$$hole" would be appropriate.
To: stands2reason
Nope, I never care what people say whose opinions I have no respect for. And if you were to say that, I certainly would have no respect for your opinion.

I guess I'm not bright enough to follow your logic...
