As with all flying objects if God has it out for you the answer is yes. In general no, if you remember the floppy flyer (the second nerf frisbee, basically a circle of parachute cloth with some fish weights sown into the edge) tortillas are about that hard (a little stiffer but not weighted on the outside) and the cheap corn ones (the ones you get for $1.50 for 3 dozen, which was our prefered tortillas, we were mostly starving students and weren't willing to spend more than $3 on any one gag) are usually a bit stale which causes them to break on serious impact. No one ever got hurt by any of our tortillas.

That a good idea, one can always threaten the speaker with a tortilla blast if they get to far off base.

And the kids are robbed of a special tradition that they brag about years afterwords.

Re: Speedy loved in Mexico. So true. Do-gooders love to create situations where they can manipulate you with guilt.

There is a local church going on a summer misson trip to help build houses in Mexico. The group that oversees the projects has a rules manual that states "no shorts or tank tops. The mexican people are offended by these"...When you look at the website pictures of the misson teams building the houses everyone is wearing long pants and tee shirts, except the Mexicans whom are wearing shorts and tank tops.

It's not like they're edible. They're usually too stiff to even roll around something which makes them only eligible for tostadas. And nutritionally the corn tortilla is inbetween the corn muffin and popcorn. But if you're just gonna be throwing them at people you go for the cheap stuff.

Maybe it's the photographer that came up with that rule. Most of these kind of do-gooders are pale and kind of chunky, no reason to show more of their flesh than absolutely necessary.

Very true. Its amazing how "Americanized" Mexican style and culture have become, although (c)rap music has yet to catch on in a big way there or anywhere else in Latin America for that matter.

They used to also tell Americans not to wear shorts in Europe. If shorts are so un-European, what is it with the Germans and Scandanavians with the pasty legs disturbing the children in Florida and the Mediterrenean.

I have actually had fresh, soft corn tortillas in Mexico and San Antonio. Anywhere else, they have been stiff, "dry" tasting and gross.

There are a couple of good places to get corn tortillas, even a couple of groceries that make them in the back. Just never buy any with a logo on the package, they all suck.

And the damn Florida Panthers fans had to ruin it for Detroit with their tossing of rats on the ice. Now the team is assessed a penalty if fans throw something on the ice.

Best ever octopus in Detroit was during the Stanley Cup Finals against NJ during Detroits first home game. Detroit scored the first goal and a guy threw an octopus on the ice that was immense. As usual a guy came out with a bucket to put it in. Big problem, octopus was too big. As is also tradition, the guy who picks up the octopus swings the octopus around his head in the air.

He picked up the octopus to remove it from the ice and held his arm up and it was still dragging on the ice! The crowd started cheering for him to do the "swing". He attempted, but it was too large and he could only get it around once.

They found and interviewed the guy who threw it and asked him where he got such a big octopus. Answer... Mexico!

Not in Miami. Heck, you order a "tortilla" in Miami and you will get an Omelette.

I am surprised they haven't attacked Cantinflas (may he rest in peace) for the caricatures he did. Maybe they don't know who he was, in which case.. shhhhhh..

This reminds me of a story I heard when I lived in Texas. A friend told me the story of a student rally where a government official (I think it was the governor) was speaking. The crowd of students was yelling 'Free Lee Otis'. So the official leans down from the speaker's podium and asked an associate 'Why are they yelling for frijoles?' which is a mexican style dish.
