[history]
May 7, 2002 -- ROTTERDAM, Netherlands - A maverick Dutch politician - who called Islamic culture "backward" in an interview last week - was shot dead yesterday as he left a radio interview.
Right-winger Pim Fortuyn, whose anti-immigration party made a surprisingly strong showing in local elections in March, was shot six times in the head, neck and chest.

The media has been reporting the whole anti muslim thing out of context. The reason he made the comment is because some muslim priest in the Netherlands unleashed a tirade against gays...this didn't appeal to Fortuin (being gay and all) and hence his comment that Islam was backward.

Yeah, should be fun seeing the heads explode of some of the more simplistic bash-minded FReepers.......he's an openly gay politician who is also anti-immigration and has made negative statements about Islam. They won't know what to say.

Bush as said nothing about this brutal slaying of someone who should've been an ally in the war against terror. Instead, Bush White House announced it would still pursue amnesty; amnesty including 500,000 illegal moslems. The War on Terror? Give me a break. How about the War on Patriotism? Remember, just as Bush said, we are all the same....
Yes Bush said nothing about the brutal slaying of this gay champion of the Dutch right just as he said nothing about the brutal assasination of Ronald Reagan anti-Communist freedom fighter, Jonas Savimbi of UNITA by the Communist President of Angola, Jose Eduardo dos Santos. I have to laugh when I hear people say that Bush is somehow to the right of Ronald Reagan when his support of so many Clintonian policies make him well to Reagan's left. Its time we realize that Bush is not only not to the right of Reagan, he is considerably to the left of Reagan. We do not have a Reagan in the White House, we have a committed George HW Bush political centrist in the White House who is eager to please his liberal Democrap political opponents as so many of his recent decisions including his signature of the Democrat Congressional Majority Insurance Bill and his push to ram amnesty of 2 million aliens through Congress have proved. Actually, I am being much too kind. President Bush's father would never have supported the Democrat Congressional Majority Insurance Bill and would have surely vetoed it in order to save the Republican Party. Therefore, Bush is to the left of his father as well.
