the clean-up crews should have had the proper protection,who's job was it to see that they did?

The crews were given masks, not immediately, but as soon as humanly possible.

There are endless pictures of the guys working at ground zero with the masks hanging around their necks. When asked why they weren't wearing them they complained they weren't comfortable.

People, go back to a couple weeks after 9-11 and this was all over the news. FEMA and the EPA was begging them to wear proper protective equipment and had thousands and thousands of masks donated.

It's not the fault of the federal Gov't if the proper safety protection wasn't used. I know because I had 18 years as a firefighter (4 in NY) and we always knew not to take our masks off after a fire but we always did. Chemicals float around after any fire for a long time and call it hard headed or whatever they can't say they didn't know !
