Someone needs to tell Dr. Richard Corlin to go and stick his head in his #@$%%. He's yet another native Californian from Soviet Monica (Santa Monica) who is out of the fruit and nut mold out there who hates guns. He obviously is ignorant of the facts that tell of the accidental deaths caused by screwball doctors, which far outnumbers the accidental deaths from guns.

They also want to know if you wear your seatbelt or ride a motorcycle. What does that have to do with a sinus infection???

As I recall about a year or two ago it was pediatricians who were last tasked with this little excercise in political correctness

Go to a new pediatrician sometime with your kids. Last fall we changed to a woman doctor for our 14 year old daughter. The questionaire not only included asking whether or not there were guns in the house but a slew of other intimate/bizarro questions. My guess is they are looking for kids who might need counseling or might be closet gay. Disgusting questions!

H-145.997 Firearms as a Public Health Problem in the United States - Injuries and Death

Our AMA recognizes that uncontrolled ownership and use of firearms, especially handguns, is a serious threat to the public's health inasmuch as the weapons are one of the main causes of intentional and unintentional injuries and deaths. Therefore, the AMA: (1) encourages and endorses the development and presentation of safety education programs that will engender more responsible use and storage of firearms; (2) urges that government agencies, the CDC in particular, enlarge their efforts in the study of firearm-related injuries and in the development of ways and means of reducing such injuries and deaths; (3) urges Congress to enact needed legislation to regulate more effectively the importation and interstate traffic of all handguns; (4) urges the Congress to support recent legislative efforts to ban the manufacture and importation of nonmetallic, not readily detectable weapons, which also resemble toy guns; (5) encourages the improvement or modification of firearms so as to make them as safe as humanly possible; (6) encourages nongovernmental organizations to develop and test new, less hazardous designs for firearms; and (7) urges that a significant portion of any funds recovered from firearms manufacturers and dealers through legal proceedings be used for gun safety education and gun-violence prevention. (CSA Rep. A, I-87; Reaffirmed: BOT Rep. I-93-50; Appended: Res. 403, I-99)

Actually, any doctor that asks this should be reported to the local police dept.. Either he/she is sidelining as a burglar, in partnership with burglars. Or he/she is a threat to either rape your spouse or your children. Report the doctors so they may be investigated per MEGAN'S law.

Thanks for the address. I spent twenty minutes looking for a place to comment on their website and finally gave up. They have my opinion now.

Lately I've been thinking, if doctors can ask us personal questions about our gun storage practices, then what can we ask them? My doctor, who happens to be a very nice lady, has yet to ask me if I own guns. If she ever does, I think I'll hand her a little questionnaire to answer first.

It would start out with sensible questions that patients should be allowed to ask their doctors. The first section would look like this:

  1) Have you or any other doctor in this office, ever been sued for malpractice? If yes, what was the outcome
      of the case?

  2) Has an accident on your part ever resulted in the death of a patient under your care?

  3) Have you or any other doctor in this office, ever prescribed a drug to a patient, only to have the patient
die as a direct result of taking that medication?

  4) Have you handled any patients in the last six hours who have a contagious disease? If so, what was the
disease and when was the contact?

  5) Where did you go to Medical School and what was your grade point average?

  6) Have you ever had a patient who survived?

If she answers all of those questions and still wants to know if I'm a gun owner, I'll get more personal.

  1) Do YOU own any guns?

  2) What is your home address?

  3) What's your marital status?

  4) When was the last time you washed your hands?

Since my doctor is an attractive woman, if she is single, washes her hands a lot, and owns more than one gun - I'll ask her the final question: "So, you want to go out sometime?"

Yeah, I'm not afraid of the AMA.

ACTION ITEM:

The American Medical Association has a new president, Dr. Richard F. Corlin, who is rabidly anti-gun and actively trying to 'rid the world' of them. To read his inaugural address to the AMA, go to www.nraila.org and wear your boots cause it gets deep!

Write to him at:
Dr. Richard F. Corlin
President American Medical Association
1301 20th Street
Santa Monica, California 90404

If my doc ever asks me if I own firearms, I'll laugh my a** off at him and accuse him of becoming forgetful in his old age. He's the one who sold me my Ruger Redhawk.
