Perhaps some day you will have a prothetic limb that derives some of it's function from a better understanding of locomotion. Who are we to predict the future?

We have been studying Dinosaurs in earnest for how long? 100 150 years? I just can't think of one invention or drug that cam from knowledge of dinosaurs...

What good is the Mona Lisa?

Oh lets not change the subject. Lets not confuse art and science...

Let me rephrase that:

I don't know what they will learn in the future. I don't know what "value" what they learn will have, even by your narrow definition of value. Even by your narrow definition of "value", they might discover something useful.

Does your crystal ball allow you to predict what "pure" scientifice research will bear fruit? How about a stock tip, then?

The subject is value, let's not dodge the question. Can you eat the Mona Lisa? Sleep with her?

I just can't think of one invention or drug that came from the Mona Lisa.

Let's break her up, and put the wood she's painted on to something "useful" There's a lot of tooth picks waiting to be made, and dental caries are the most pervasive of human ailments. Think of the teeth we can save!

No, your changing the question from science to art then back again. If you don't have the ability to tell the difference, perhaps we should just end this conversation. Answer the original question put to you. What scientific good is the study of dinosaurs??? You are the one who is cracking this up to be such a great thing...

What scientific good is the study of dinosaurs???

It expands the horizons on knowledge, that's all science has to do to be "good".

I assume you know the difference between "pure" science, and "applied" science?

Me, I'm just an engineer...
