Here the estimable cracker writes:

Could you offer any hints why your Intelligent Designer spent the first billion or so years of life on earth piddling around with prokaryotes? Why did He take so long just to get to multicellulars? I mean, here's the problem:

Why is it so gradualistic/incremental/evolutionary-looking? Did He not know what He wanted early on? Did He not know how?
