I wondered about this possibility myself. On the one hand, I'd heard he had kidney trouble possibly severe enough to require dialysis. On the other hand, I've also heard he's a professional hypochondriac.

The dialysis reports have been around for some time. Yesterday's news included speculation by a Western journalist, who actually interviewed bin Laden while he was hooked up to a dialysis machine in some cave, that bin Laden might be dead.

I was on dialysis for 6 years, then got a kidney transplant. I know the videos of bin Laden are of iffy quality, but I've noticed a steady deterioration of his skin color, characteristc of kidney failure. How long would it take to die without dialysis treatment? Depends on how serious his kidney failure is, and it depends on what he eats. It could be a quick as a week, or as long as a month.
