I just learned that the Simon For Governor campaign has realesed its first radio ad. You can listen to it on their web site.
Here's the text (but it's better when you listen to it):
(Announcer's text in Italics.) Bill Simon -- the right experience and right qualities to be a great Republican Governor for California.
I'm Bill Simon. As a conservative Republican I want to get our state headed back in the right direction. My experience in public service, as a successful businessman and as a leader in charity have prepared me to bring the California dream to everyone.
Bill Simon - Federal Prosecutor Under Rudy Giuliani.
I'm the only candidate who has actually put criminals behind bars, and I was honored to serve as part of the Reagan Administration under Rudy Giuliani.
Bill Simon - Successful Businessman.
I've spent my career creating and saving thousands of jobs here in California. I'm ready to get our economy going again.
Bill Simon - Charity Leader.
I believe in giving back to the community and I've made volunteer work and charity a priority in my life.
Bill Simon - Federal prosecutor. Successful businessman. Leader in charity.
Bill Simon - the Conservative Republican for Governor.
Paid for by the Bill Simon for Governor Committee.

Woo hoo! I can't wait to hear it!

Sounds like a great ad. Compassionate conservatism wins and Simon seems to have it nailed.
Go Bill Go!

Cool, Dan. I was wondering when Simon or Jones were going to get on the air. Seeing Dick Riordan on television all of the time had gotten me disgusted.
Cool Simon ad!!!

Impeach98, how did you get a hold of this? Do you work for Dick Riordan?

Do the focus groups reall put crime that high among pubbie voters? How are they going to nail Jones for the little that he has done about voter fraud?
I can just see it: A picture of ballot boxes floating in San Francisco Bay with voice-over quotes from Big Willie about how the process is conducted with absoulute integrity, then the tag line... but what has he DONE about it?
I know, I know, the 11th Commandment, but it is a fun thought.

Huh? Get a hold of what? And no, I do NOT work for the Riordan campaign, but I will take that as a compliment because they must have a good campaign staff to be able to package Dick well enough so that the media thinks he is tough enough to turn a boomerang around let alone f*cked up California.

I just think it is neat that Dick Riordan is about to be taken out by Rudy Giuliani.

Hey, Elkgrovedan:
The ad cuts off at businessman. Do you know why?

Did you see what Jones said (in the Bee today) about his position on gay marriage? Looks like Simon is the only conservative in this race. Go Simon!

"Did you see what Jones said (in the Bee today) about his position on gay marriage? Looks like Simon is the only conservative in this race. Go Simon!" No, do you have a link?

I just listened to the ad you linked to ... it was great. Bill Simon sounds like a real person, not an arrogant politician who thinks he knows better than everyone. I particularly like the part about his charity work and I didn't know that he had worked as a prosecutor under the Reagan Administration and Guiliani ... that's really cool.
As I listened, I thought, Simon sounds like the only candidate who has actually DONE something outside of politics. We need a Governor who isn't a politician, someone who isn't beholden to the special interests, who has actually run a business and has the sound moral strength to lead with character.
I always knew I would be voting for SImon because he's the most conservative, I feel twice as good about my decision now.

I think what evilsmoker was refering to was the following comment in Thursday, 1/10 Sac Bee:
Sean Walsh, Jones' deputy campaign manager, said the secretary of state hasn't taken a position on same-sex civil unions.
Sounds like he wants to sit on the fence on this one. Major kudos to Simon for not ducking this issue.

Thanks Gophack.
Yeah that is pretty sad to "not take a position."
Come on Jones - you are running for Governor. Gotta put it out on the line. Riordan supports it, Simon opposes it. And Jones is the milktoast "pander to anyone" apparently.
I am disappointed again to see Jones take a dive on issues like this.
GO SIMON!

Thank you for posting this. It was interesting to hear a political ad for this race. I am quite excited about the Riordan versus Simon contest and I think the better of the two men is Simon, hands down. I too had the problem of not hearing all of the audio that the text showed was part of the script. Can you provide another clip with the full audio or direct us to somewhere that we can hear it?
