The BBC is worse than CNN when it comes to kissing up to the Arabs. Its one step below Al-Jazeera.

I could scarcely believe what I had heard. Will Self (who claimed to be Jewish himself) was seeking to make the wider world aware of two things: first, that I was a Jew, and second, that therefore my views on Israel could be disregarded since Jews had double loyalties.

The problem with this question (as well as when applied to the U.S.) is that it assumes that the Israel and the UK or US could face-off in war, as the countries presently exist.

If the U.S. and Israel ever came to war, it would mean that the change in at least one, if not both, countries had been so large as to make that nation (or those nations) unrecognizable from how they exist today.

But as the question presently stands, it's rather like asking "Have you stopped beating your wife?" And just as fair.

British Polite Society Has Found a Not-So-New Target

"Actually, anti-Semitism was rather fashionable, until Hitler came along and overdid it."
---supposedly a quote from a British Military officer who served in WWII

Good column. I used to look for her writing in the Sunday Times, but I haven't been able to find it lately. I thought this was due to the "reorganization" of the Sunday Times website, but this piece says she's now with the Daily Mail, so I'll look there. Most her stuff deals with family, crime, and education, and it's very good.

Europe's pose of moral superiority has always been just that, a pose.

When Black players go on the field inb Europe -- soccer and other sports -- they are frequently greeted with bananas thrown from the stands.

Most Americans wouldn't understand why but it's this: Africans are ape-like psuedo-humans who eat bananas.

Suggestion to a Eurobigots: don't try this in the USA or you'll end up in hospital.

If Britain declared war on Israel, whose side would I be on?

For this profoundly stupid question, the only intelligent answer would be, "It depends upon the circumstances." The author did not come up with the best answer.

The most disturbing thing about the crowd is that none seem cognizant of the fact that Barak made a generous offer to Arafat that would have ended all the nastiness seen on the TV screens, and Arafat not only rejected it, he failed to make any counter offer. I read somewhere recently that Arafat said that had in done so, he would have been killed by his own people.

I know Sharon, wrongly I think, rejects the Barak approach, but Israel needs to get this factlet out more. It needs to say it again, and again, and again. Arafat has shown absolutely no interest (perhaps due to the implacable hostility of his own people) in any peace deal that has any remote nexus to affording Israel with any reasonable chance of long term survival. Thus the war continues, and thus other "solutions" will have to be fashioned. If you can't live together, than you must live apart.
