NEW YORK, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Under heavy political pressure to produce options for military action against Iraq, Newsweek has learned, the Joint Chiefs of Staff have been looking at a study that suggests putting 50,000 U.S. troops on its southern border; another 50,000 U.S. troops on its northern border; then sending the two forces towards Baghdad in the middle. But planners doubt that even that force would be enough to take the Iraqi capital.

"I am certainly in favor of dictating to certain people in overseas locations who nurture terrorists that often annoy us, and occasionally do serious damage." -- mathurine Tell me more about your concepts of dictarship. You scare me.

We are a free society, but not when it comes down to war stratagies.
Can you imagine what Maxine Waters, Barney Frank, John Lewis, Cynthia McKinney, Charles Rangel et pukes would do to our Country if they had vital military information? They are not on our side!
Last I heard we were at war against those who want to take the US down.

Then why did you vote for these folks to represent us? You are bringing America to a cliff hangar.

Sorry to scare you. I only mean to say that since the ascendance of Islamic terrorism in the late twentieth century and early twenty-first I have lost all regard for those people, their religious leadership, their culture, their governments in most cases and their general value to anything human. What it takes to civilise them probably needs to be dictated to them. Does that scare you or do you want me to say something ugly and politically incorrect?
To: mathurine
You are friggin nut case. Islam is not about taking America "
DOWN." But I agree that there are certain groups that want to take America down.
Way back in American history we had the English. Then there was Spain. Of course, the Russians. And we we have all sorts of jerks attempting to screw America.
Why do you think America is the most powerful nation ever ,,,,,, we are a good people. We are lucky not to live on a desert worrying about a scorpion.

Let me tell you that "these folks" don't represent me.
Check out the Congressional Progressive Caucus which will give you a line up of these who openly want to take this Country into a communist/socialist ditch.
You can get a link to this from Oldtimer's page.

I see a difference, all right. You are advocating the destruction of America by providing unlimited power to the president. Did you object when President Clinton violated the War Powers Act with impunity? Congress took the matter to the court, they refused to consider the case, saying, it was a political matter to be resolved by congress......A little circular logic there.

For weeks, the Bush administration has been sending up "trial balloons" to see how the public and media will respond to the idea of an invasion of Iraq.
This latest Joint Chiefs Study story is a part of this "trial balloon" strategy.
The JCS has, of necessity, undergone continuous planning for such an invasion for the past 10 years.
The reactions in this thread have been very interesting. Quite mixed. Not at all as unanimously hawkish as I would have expected.

Where is the president in all of this? Pssst Buckeroo. Ever hear of the war powers act, enacted by the
congress and signed into law by the president?
Where is the Congressional declaration of War towards Iraq?
Iraq unconditionally surrendered to the UN forces during the
Gulf War. A condition imposed was, they would destroy all
wepons of mass destruction, and allow for UN inspection, to
monitor their compliance. They are out of compliance, therefore
peace does not exist between us.

Tom Daschle is in the senate.....Not Congress....Congress refers to both the House and the Senate. Congressman refers to a member of the House.

Is Islam your hot button? Were you comatose when the Islamic folks hijacked airplanes and flew them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon? Did you overlook the Islamic terrorism in the Phillippinnes? Did you fail to notice anything about Islamic terrorism in Indonesia? Did you see it as only coincidental that the thwarted shoe-bomb hijacker was Islamic? Not to mention a full litany in the interest of bandwith, but there are so many Islamic terrorists who have been revealed, that one would be hard to convince that there are any of that persuasion who are not at least secretly disposed to stomp and stomp the rest of us again and again. Inferior culture. Starts a fight and then doesn't want anyone to fight back.

Let me introduce myself. I agree with no one throttleing action outside of my capability to control that same action. IMO, it is written into our Constitution.
What this means is simple, I want a small government that our Constitution grants. Nothing more.

EVERYTHING is not written in the constitutation!!! It gives each body certain powers......ability to make laws....enforce them etc....otherwist the constitutation would be 5 gazzilion pages long. Your arguing a point that has been argued in the highest courts.....your side lost the arguement.....everytime.....

The arab world hates us and everyone else that does not praise allah.....The Moslem fanatics are also hostile to the Hindus, as is evidenced by recent open hostilities along the border with India, ostensibly over Kashmir.
But then, Christian fanatics are also hostile to all other religions, and even among themselves. And Hindu fanatics are the same. Even the fanatical Buddhists in Sri Lanka get into it. Seems to me it's fanaticism that's the problem here, not Arabs or Moslems or towelheads in general--although I'll grant you this, more and more of them are getting involved in it. Like a big fanatical religious revival.
