NEW YORK, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Under heavy political pressure to produce options for military action against Iraq, Newsweek has learned, the Joint Chiefs of Staff have been looking at a study that suggests putting 50,000 U.S. troops on its southern border; another 50,000 U.S. troops on its northern border; then sending the two forces towards Baghdad in the middle. But planners doubt that even that force would be enough to take the Iraqi capital.

Give Turkey trusteeship over the Sunni Iraqi north, give (newly democratic) Iran trusteeship over the Shiite south. Give them both enough rights over the oil to keep them happy. The rest of the oil rights are under international supervision, in trusteeship for the Iraqi people. Devising terms sufficient to satisfy the necessary number of parties just requires imagination.

I'm sure the Russians can be persuaded to let us go after Saddam. It's just a matter of providing sufficient incentive to them.

"Since Israel has long wanted to embroil us with Iraq.." Aristeides, don't you agree, that instead of us getting "embroiled" in Iraq, wouldn't it be better to use the advise in my post above, from my military pal - and simply do what we just did in Afgan...Hussien steps down or we give him 48 hours to evacuate ALL of his cities - then, bomb them all to rubble! Less U. S. casualities! bttt

Personally, I doubt if Saddam would agree to such terms unless we guaranteed him a very cushy -- and secure -- retirement. But it's politically impossible for us to do that.

This is from the German newspaper Bild; I think this is the original source for the report that Atta met with an Iraqi agent in Prague. Here's a
CBS article from 10/25/2001 which says, in part:
Security experts in Germany are investigating whether hijack suspect Mohammed Atta carried anthrax spores allegedly obtained from Iraqi agents to the United States, a German newspaper reported on Thursday. Germany's Bild daily cited unnamed Israeli intelligence sources as saying Atta, who is suspected of flying a plane which crashed into the World Trade Center, received anthrax spores from Iraqi agents during two visits to the Czech Republic.
The mass circulation newspaper cited investigators as saying they suspected Atta, who had lived in the northern German city of Hamburg, carried the spores to New York where customs officials apparently checked his luggage for drugs and not bacteria.

Any laws X42 does/didn't have to respect NOBODY else does either. Pretty damn simple when you think about it. (Quite a few had lots of fun for 8 years laughing off his crimes and attacking those who tried to hold him accountabe.) Funs over. Lets roll!

I am certainly in favor of dictating to certain people in overseas locations who nurture terrorists that often annoy us, and occasionally do serious damage. You know how it is with any pest, there is a level of tolerance where the energy required to annihilate it is greater than the energy required to put up with it. Then the line is crossed. It bites you, or gets in your breakfast or dumps on your porch or ruins your landscaping. When that happens, whether the pest knows it or not at the time, it is over. If a cosmetic removal which won't bother the sensitivities of the neighbors can be arranged, that is preferable, but the pest is going, going, gone.
