Marines raise Trade Center memorial flag over Kandahar airport

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- U.S. Marines raised a giant flag scrawled with the names of New York City policemen killed in the Sept. 11 attacks and other terror victims over their base Tuesday at Kandahar airport.

The flag, which had flown near the World Trade Center at the time of the attacks, was given to the Marines by the New York City Police Department, with the wish that it be flown over Afghanistan, according to Col. Andrew W. Frick of Task Force 58.

As I posted here, this story was on the radio this a.m. Some guy they interviewed said that this is "Symbolic to show that we're now in their back yard; they started this war in our front yard and we're going to finish in their back yard." Or words to that effect.
