I share your curiousity that 30K isn't enough for immediate needs. I'm sure there is more to the story, and it needs to be told. As for the charities not treating all the victims of 9-11 the same, that doesn't make sense.

I agree all victims of 9/11 should be treated the same.

I'm sure there is more to the story, and it needs to be told. IMO, these people didn't take care of their families; I know there were plenty of people who didn't earn enough to provide for their families, but the ONLY ones you see on TV are the stockbrokers. They should have KNOWN better and I don't feel the least bit bad for them.

In NYC there is the "Twin Towers Fund", which only benefits the families of UNIFORMED personnel (Fire and Police.) Some of the widows of Port Authority operations personnel-the folks who manned the emergency control center-coordinating the fire response and directing the evacuations- rightly feel slighted by the fact that their loss is not regognized. The operations people stayed at their posts, assisting in the evacuation, despite the fact that they were not sworn to do so.
I believe that more attention should be paid to those folks. Their sacrifice, like that of the Heroes of Flight 93, is as heroic as that of the uniformed personnel
