Well, I don't know about all that. Lets keep in mind that from 1979 to 1989 russians lost some 15,000 servicement. Afghanis lost over a million. Lets also keep ind mind, that Russia was an occupying force (unlike us) and they left Afghanistan because of the changing political climate in USSR, and no longer were interested in turning Afghanistan into a communist state. So, when all the islamists run around saying how mujahadeen "defeated" russians, look at the numbers.
It's worth noting that McCain, the arrogant pr**k, said that we'd have a lot of body bags filled, and also that it would be okie dokie with him. He's more guilty than the others of being willing to sacrifice American soldiers' lives.
The soviets couldn't win because we, the US, were arming, training and supporting the "afgan freedom fighters", or the talaban as they are known today.
Who are "they"? They are also the ones who promised our troops in Kosivo would be home by Christmas; how many years ago? They are the ones who have no problem with many of our military families being on food stamps. They are the ones who insisted our military be used around the globe in "peace keeping" missions and refused to allow it to be re-supplied. A few names that come to mind are Tom daschle, hillary clinton, and john mcCain.
And when are our forces in Kosivo coming home?
And a very good thought at that! And let's not forget our, to use the politically correct term, "American Taliban"; let's make sure we exicute that trator!
MARK A SITY
This is excellent. Beside memorializing the victims today, we should also memorialize those fearmongers and naysayers who refuse to stand against evil, but instead bow to weakness, the source being weakness that resides within their own character.
Not true. The reason why they lost is because we were funding the Mooju Hadeem (yes I know its spelt rong for all you Spelling NAZI's out there) Arabs aren't that great as fighters without sponsorship! Not to mention that we fought this fight from the air, not on the ground with troops and tanks. That is Russias fatal mistake!
Could that be because Soviet military power was vastly overrated, and capitalism is philosophically superior to communism?
What you say is the correct history of Afghanistan BUT what the author says we were told is the propaganda fed to us regardless of the actual facts. Most who don't know those actual history that you and I know were not truthfully informed. They were told what the author reported by the mass media and to prepare for another Vietnam.
An honest mistake ;-)
Also, and most importantly, NO ONE is suppying taliban with weapons and other supplies.. They don't have a single ally..
Thousands of Troops Needed in Afghanistan -Experts

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Military experts predicted on Wednesday after a month of U.S. bombing that thousands of American and allied troops would be needed in a spring offensive to drive Afghanistan's ruling Taliban from power.
The experts spoke with Reuters as the Taliban's battle-hardened military and al Qaeda guerrillas of fugitive Osama bin Laden remained entrenched and defiant, raising key questions about the young war on terrorism in that rugged country....
