I got a FReepmail from somebody who I won't identify but he had an interesting observation. Oxford CT is not too far off I84 which is the road a logical person would use to travel from Boston MA to Jersey City NJ. It is also about halfway between those two locations which just happen to be nests of Islamic fundamentalist terrorists. Makes one wonder if the anthrax perpetrator wasn't traveling from one place to the other and pulled off and just happened to stop in one of the places that the woman from Oxford went to the following day. Her age would make her more susceptible to serious illness I would think

Investigators have found a trace of anthrax bacteria on the outside of a letter sent to a residence in Seymour, Conn., about 1½ miles from the home of an elderly widow who mysteriously died of the disease last week.
...snip...
The newly discovered Seymour letter a business letter sent to an estate liquidator who works from home was postmarked in Trenton, N.J., and dated Oct. 9 the same day that letters containing billions of deadly spores were mailed to Sens. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) and Thomas A. Daschle (D-S.D.). The Seymour letter bears postal system markings showing it moved through mail-sorting machinery in the Hamilton Township, N.J., processing facility about 10 seconds after the Leahy letter passed through, according to a Postal Service official.
....snip...
Then an automated sorter scans the destination information for each piece into a computer. It is that computer file that led investigators to 88 Great Hill Road in Seymour, home of John S. Farkas, 53.
....snip...
Investigators now know of at least 240 additional pieces of mail that were destined for Connecticut and passed through Hamilton some time after the Leahy and Daschle letters and before the plant was closed for cleaning two weeks later. They were meeting yesterday to determine how to proceed, Postal Inspection Service spokeswoman Paula McCarran said. One question is whether it would be worthwhile to interview people who received those letters.

"If the perp loaded the envelopes in a house or apartment, there should be some spilled or leaked anthrax that should infect other people in the vicinity sooner or later."Actually, an off-the-shelf HEPA filter (available at Home Depot or just about anywhere else) will trap >99% of anthrax spores. The perp is perfectly free to work at home as long as he keeps a HEPA air filter running nearby, and tidies up after a work session with a HEPA-equipped vacuum cleaner. Throw away the used filters and the FBI could swab his apartment for anthrax without finding anything.
Question for Oxford, CT police: What kind of vacuum cleaner did Mrs. Lundgren own? A HEPA-equipped one? If so, they need to check its filter.

"Question for Oxford, CT police: What kind of vacuum cleaner did Mrs. Lundgren own? A HEPA-equipped one? If so, they need to check its filter."Rereading that, it almost sounds as though I'm accusing Mrs. Lundgren, which is obviously not the case. Rather, a HEPA vacuum would explain how she could be exposed to anthrax inside her home without any detectable spores left behind: She'd continue to be well enough for days after exposure to have vacuumed once, which would put all the spores in the filter rather than lying around to be detected.

Doubt she vacumms her mail box...that is what is so puzzling to me...no traces in her mailbox...

Gas Pumped Into Senate Office to Kill Anthrax
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - With nearby streets closed to traffic, workers on Saturday began pumping chlorine gas into the office of Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle to clean up deadly anthrax bacteria left by a contaminated letter opened in his office in October. The fumigation with chlorine dioxide gas at Daschle's office suite in the Senate's Hart office building began at 3 a.m. and was expected to last about 15 hours, said Capitol Police spokesman Dan Nichols. The building has been closed since a few days after a letter laced with anthrax was opened in the South Dakota senator's office on Oct. 15, exposing over two dozen office workers to the potential germ warfare agent.

Hmmm ... thank you so much for the analysis!

It does indeed look like a double standard ... unless of course what was done for the USPO was adequate and what is being done for the Senate is pampering.

There's also the possibility that the government is fully aware of who is ultimately responsible for the anthrax attack, most likely Iraq. But the U.S. wants to go to war with Iraq on our own timetable, not theirs. If Saddam Hussein's complicity were acknowledged now, the calls for immediate military action might be so strong as to force us into attacking Iraq earlier than Rumsfeld thinks is militarily advisable. Plus, we gain the advantage of surprise when we eventually do attack Iraq, since Saddam Hussein must be wondering what's going on with our government's response, just as we are. Also, the U.S. government isn't a monolith that uniformly either "knows" or "doesn't know" something. It's quite possible, for example, that Rumsfeld knows that Iraq is behind this, that the FBI thinks it's a lone psychopathic microbiologist, and the Democratic leadership believes it's an organized right-wing hate group. I think that above explains FBI & CIA's involvement...isn't gonna be one besides confirming strike areas inside IRAQ.
