Here's the problem for the colonel: Hussein has worked very hard to "dirty up" people all around him in concentric circles as wide as possible . . . . . . stuff such as gathering up a couple of hundred "traitors to the regime", including relatives and in-laws of the colonel, then lining up the traitors against a wall -- and having the colonel and his fellow officers prove their loyalty by executing the traitors with machine guns -- so it's hard for the colonel to disassociate from the regime. also, Saddam may have terminal bone cancer -- if true, what's he got to lose? why NOT go out with a really really big bang?

Sorry, but if that "WMD" attack hasn't materialized by now in Israel, I have serious doubts that it ever will.

My personal opinion is that, fortuitously, these people weren't quite there yet in developing these weapons. I think now is the opportune time to ensure that they never will, in our lifetimes at least.
