Riffat Hussain called that a "nightmare scenario" for Pakistan and the United States, because it could mean that Pakistani or U.S. troops raiding the area in search of bin Laden would face a well-armed militia.

There's something to be said for a well-armed militia - what the heck do people think the 2nd Amendment was all about in the first place? Aside from that, there is one thing missing from this article : what the crime rate is in Darra. I'll bet any form of burglary is unknown, as is the occasional passing insult.

We need to give these guys the SA 80, they might be able to make one that does not jam.

Why do officials and newsmen continue to seem surprised? Any competent 19th-Century blacksmith could understand and build a workable gun, and many of them did. America used to be full of small companies that produced inexpensive and serviceable guns for regional markets.

This has been going on in this region since before the British tried to subdue the area. I have a friend who was in this area about 35 years ago and he bought a beautiful replica of an Enfield .303. He never fired it however, as the builder assured him that the rifling was only good for about 150 rounds... anything more than that and he would be shooting a smooth-bore. What we have in this article is the typical bolshevik whining about a situation which makes them very uncomfortable and they're hoping the U.S. will put a stop to it. The U.S. would be wise to leave these people entirely to themselves.
