Taliban buried alive in mountains: Survivor

Kabul, Nov 3

"I thought I was going to die — the earth was raining from the skies," a Taliban survivor told the Sun while describing how an entire unit was buried alive in a strike by US B-52s.

Osman Rakhim, 23, said the explosions caused by the giant US bombers started a landslide on his mountainside position.

He said dozens of troops were killed when hundreds of tons of earth and rock came down on top of them.

Rakhim wandered away from the carnage in a daze and later surrendered to the Northern Alliance. He said a whole unit of fighters dug in behind him were buried.

Rakhim told the Sun: “I could not see, I couldn’t breathe. Everything was in darkness ... There were many, many bombs. The earth shook and it rained rocks and shrapnel.

“The hillside was falling on us. There were about 300 of us there dug in with sandbags. I have no idea how many were killed.

Can you remember a US President the likes of Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot?

Yes. There's hiring people you know that are appropriate for the job then there's hiring people you know because it'll enable you to keep everything under your thumb. The latter is Bill Clinton and amiguismo.

Sounds like some of my tax dollars were well spent. A tip of the hat to the USAF.

I agree. I live very close to the flightline of a B-52 base and hear them coming and going all the time. At night, I often open my window so the whine of their engines can put me to sleep. Some are bothered by the noise, but I think it's beautiful.

It'll be a beautiful day when our government gives
Education all the tax dollars it needs and the
U.S. Air Force has to hold bake sales to buy bombs.

I'm sure everyone has seen this paraphrased bumper-sticker on cars.
The irony is that the drivers of those cars would have
such mixed emotions, fear since the WTC attack and hatred
of the U.S. Military, that they wouldn't know whether to cheer
or protest this bombing by our U.S. Air Force B-52s.

Sounds like biblical retribution, yet it is very small scale compared with what the people in the WTC experienced. Add to it the horror of inescapable fire, thousands trying to escape, and we might begin to feel sorry for you.

This is indeed good news. My Saturday will be much enhanced now by my own mental picture of a mountainside coming down and entombing a couple hundred vermin. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh .....

Wow, this good news should probably be memorialized in song. I'll see if I can find something appropriated later today.

Should have used a fuel/air! Then we probably would not have gotten the report.

I'm usually not this optimistic...
but my substantial gut feeling is that we'll know the Taliban/Osama have been
defeated when next spring arrives in Afghanistan.
And there is only silence around the rockpiles of hundreds of collapsed cave entrances.
This time Victory will be signified by simple unending silence.

I don't know, maybe we should send him back to his unit. First, put an OBL mask on him. Next, plant whatever propaganda we wanted the Taliban to read, on his person. Lastly, give him a parachute (auto-open type). Fly him over the front lines and push him out. I imagine the Taliban "soldiers" would open fire, especially if the parachute was... say... red & white striped with some white stars on a blue background. When his lifeless body finally hits the ground, I'd love to see the look on ole Omars face. Regards....GG

Gosh. Maybe we should rethink this war. I mean, look at all the harm we are doing and all innocent lives we are taking. No one deserves to live in fear like this man had to. /sarcasm
