Immigrant Opportunists - a diverse and divided nation is doomed
gulf1 ^ | 10/30/01 | Col. Robert L. Pappas, USMC, ret.

The United States is a great and diverse nation and that diversity gives it strength, as long as within that diversity there is unity of purpose or nationhood; on the other hand, a diverse and divided nation is doomed. To paraphrase for emphasis, it is essential that the US has national unity in its diversity, in fact, unless it does so, it is likely that it will have entered the terminal phase of its history.

There are many alien nationals, not to mention many members of Congress, sociologists, "politically correct" liberals, who believe that it is okay to live in America, to prosper in America, to take advantage of the opportunities offered in America, and to take away from American citizens who have legitimate needs, but who themselves have no intention of becoming American citizens. What a deal! That's the best of all worlds, all the benefits without responsibility.

Those who come to the United States to live and to enjoy its benefits on a permanent basis without assuming citizenship responsibility should be sent back to their homeland. In fact, there are an estimated eight million illegal immigrants, and millions more legal visitors, students, etc. who have overstayed their visas. It's time to clean house. By doing so, in addition to clearing out many potential enemies, it would ameliorate the present economic downturn.

The magnificent words, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..." always puts a lump to this writer's throat, yet if these international opportunists come to America with no desire or intention of becoming citizens, they should go home. (Granted; limited exceptions for age, health, and some political or social refugees.) And for those citizens whose allegiance is not to the United States, but to one world government and includes abrogation of the US Constitution, either get on board, or in the alternative, may the door hit you in the backside as you leave.

The saying goes "Give me your Tired, Poor, Huddled Masses" not "Give me Terrorists, Drug Dealers and Criminals." The attacks that are being inflicted on our country are a direct result of a failed immigration policy.

Quote from the Great Theodore Roosevelt: "A hyphenated American is not an American at all. This is just as true of the man who puts 'Native' before the hyphen as of the man who puts German or Irish or French before the hyphen. Americanism is a matter of the spirit and of the soul. Our allegiance must be purely to the United States. We must unsparingly condemn any man who holds any other allegiance." Theodore Roosevelt

Well, certainly if those drugs are coming from Afghanistan. That would be direct support of the Taliban who supports terrorists.

The "we can't shut the door, because we're "a nation of immigrants" line has a big hole in it.

Immigration when our ancestors came meant legal immigration; walking across the border as an illegal alien just wasn't an option if you were in Ireland, Italy, or some East European shtetl. Immigrants then all had to undergo rigorous health inspections - and, with those failing being put right back on the same ship to go home (and the ship line fined for each reject) - the ship lines took to doing their own health checks in Europe before putting wannabe Americans aboard their ships for the trip here. No "bilingual education" when you arrived, nor street signs and driver-license tests in languages other than English, nor satellite TV broadcasting your homeland's culture to you in your native language; you had to become fluent in English. No welfare - for arrivals or anyone else.

The immigrant experience of our grandparents or great-grandparents (or earlier) just bears no resemblence to the immigrant experience of today. It is time to tell the truth.

It's time to clean house. By doing so, in addition to clearing out many potential enemies, it would ameliorate the present economic downturn.

That's too simple. And too logical. But if they deported the non-citizen enemies, how will they justify tapping our phones, monitoring our internet, opening and inspecting our mail? How would they get us to agree to a national ID card? We wouldn't need to be strip searched before boarding a plane. How can they come up with better reasons to impose a police state if we aren't under this kind of threat?

You must not be very awake if you really believe that was the work of just 19 men all by themselves. Since you're so new on here, maybe you should watch this so you can have a little more of a clue as to what is going on.

I can't believe the news media and citizens at large are giving the Congress a pass on what they have done to our nation and are continuing to do.

A full 90% of Americans wanted a halt to immigration, just dig up any old pre 9-11 poll and look at the figgures. And yet Congress continued to act in direct opposition to the will of the people. They did not even have the decency to take the trillions of dollars we have paid in taxes to set up a system that afforded any protection to us. So no I will not be singing Kumbya with any of them. Why is no one demanding an accounting for this fiasco, that has been all but treason to the Constitution and nation? Well, come to think of it, is it not indeed treason not to protect our borders and the invasion we have been exposed to?

I do not buy the "We are all Americans and we are united" pap being dished out, I want to see some prison time for these boogers.

The vast, vast majority of immigrants are peaceful patriots. They do not ask nor deserve to be lumped in with those 19 cowards. While I respect the author's opinion, I disagree with his statements, which are more emotional than rational. I take comfort in the fact that he is not an elected official, and that our current president has far more understanding and tolerance of immigrants than ignorant authors such as this man ever will. :)

I finally read a post from a man who thinks EXACTLY the way I do. My wife says that this is a scary scenario!

Seriously, I travel a lot, domestic US, Europe, South America, Far East. When guests ask me where I'm from, I respond, "I'm an American." Conversations continue, "are you Irish?"... "no, I'm an American." "Yeah, but where are you from?"... I was born in New Jersey." "But before you were born, where were you from?"... "My mother's womb" "Really, where was your mother from?"... "Well she is an American too"...

This is when I get pissed off; "Listen, I'll set this straight for you okay?? Mark Davis is an English-Welsh-German-Austian-AMERICAN. My children are English-Welsh-German-Austrian-AND-Czech-AMERICANS."

I've spoken with my children about these conversations, and now that they have enough mature gray matter to THINK; the ask their parents why Jesse Yapton and Al Harpton talk about "African-Americans" all the time. My son said, "Dad, Africa is a continent, it's not a country.

My response was, "Now you understand."

Direct result?
That would mean they had no evil intentions prior to entering the US.
