I think the Catholic view, to simplify, is presdesination of the Saved, but not the Damned. I admire Calvin's great abilities, but I tend to write him off as an extreme Augustinian, who picked up on the theology developed by St. Austin at the most pessimistic point in his life, when the African Church--and Roman civilization, for that matter. seemed to be going to hell in a hand basket.

I can see that, because since God is not in time if you are Saved then God has always seen you that way and has acted toward you in that manner.
