I've got the keyboard, Mack in the dog house, and I want to DROP the subject:)
Douglas, Our church right now is small so is all we have are a board of trustee's who do nothing but we have to have them for govermental reasons, (filings, 501c). The way Christ set up his church is Pastors (elders, bishops all the same), and Deacons. You will find all this stuff in 1 and 2 Tim. and Titus. On any issuses such as the parking lot thing the whole church votes on it. If we have a straying member, or one living in sin the pastor is to go and rebuke them. If after time they do not turn away their membership would be revoked on the pastors authority. Such as we had an older couple living together. They did not want to marry because they would lose some social security and benefits. He told them to marry. They took off for a weekend said they got married, but we found out from the man's daughter that they were lying. The pastor went to them again, they finally married, but it was really a tough thing on the pastor as you can imagine. I feel in alot of churchs the pastor would have turned a blind eye to it to save himself the embrassment and trouble. The hard stand is exactly that hard. But that was wrong and they needed to be called on it.
Yes I believe all the doctrine my church teaches. If the pastor started teaching things that were not right, we would bring it before him, then the congregation, and if they agreed he would be fired. If they didn't agree I guess we would leave.

(Then again, that's the entire issue here isn't it?)

So you are not a member of any certain denomination? Who established the doctrine?
