The Right To Work Vote. A Freeper's Personal Observation

This is my very first posting of something in this format so I hope I found the right place for it. If not, I'm sorry.

I'm a life long resident of the great state of Oklahoma. The voters of this state have made a number of landmark decisions, including eductaion reform, car tag reform and term limits. Yesterday our state became the 26th state in the union to pass a Right-to-Work law. the vote tally was 54 to 46% in favor. I was one of the 54% in the affirmative.

This vote sends a clear message to out of state special interests that their day of running this state are over with. That now it is the voters of Oklahoma who are going to assume the authority position over their own affairs and that the people who represent them must now listen to them and not the out of state special interest groups if they want to keep their jobs.

This proposal, SQ 695 was endorsed by a number of conservative groups as well as many chambers of commerce, the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, the state chamber of commerce and many others. Even many prominent Democrats like Former govenor George Nigh & David Boren came out in support of this proposal. This proposal has turned out to be the costliest battle in state history, but to bring Oklahoma into the 21st century it was well worth it.

All in all it was indeed a very happy and historic day for the grest of Oklahoma in which this freeper reside and he was very happy to have been a part of this history in the making. With this vote, Oklahoma is posed to enter the 21st century. Noone couldn't have been any more prouder of this state than I am.

And that's my personal obrservation of the events of September 25, 2001 in my own home state of Oklahoma.

Now all we need to do is reform the state tax system and get rid of the extortionate state income tax. It certainly looks like Mr. Stipe and his "Little Dixie Democrats" are slowly but surely losing their grip.

Congrats! Despite all the lunatics moving into the beautiful state of Florida, the Right to Work legislation has worked very well here. You'll be pleasantly suprised how well it works for OK in the long term.

Nothing personal.... but I pray that Oklahoma doesn't end up like Florida. I don't want to learn a second or third language. And I don't want huge parts of it becoming ethinic centers.

I voted against the measure. I voted to leave well enough alone. Workers should have the right to form unions if they want to.

Workers DO have the right to form unions.

This vote was to allow workers the right NOT to join a union if they don't want to.

Many workers would willingly choose to earn 5% less instead of earning that 5% and having to send it to the unions to donate to their idealogical enemies!

Workers already had a choice of working in union shops or not working in union shops. Nobody makes a person take a union job. But the legislation has successfully removed a large amount of power from the unions workers do chose to form in the future. The legislation was a mistake... and in 20 years when our state looks like Florida or South Texas(full of people who don't speak the language but are willing to work for next to nothing) we'll then be debating how much of our State taxes will be used to suppliment their income.

Understand, I don't work for a union and I never have.

Ahhh! Now that I can support! My friend is a schoolteacher, and he always tells me how the union intimidates him and bullies him around. I can tell he wouldn't be with them if we didn't live in the Peoples Republic of Taxachusettes, home to the worst of all unions, Local 25.

I think you may have second thoughts about this if you ever have trouble in your job, Here in Texas the Company rules. You can be terminated for almost anything and you will not win in court. We have been told this by several attorneys after lots of older employees were terminated from high tech corporations recently. We know several men and women who were let go and every attorney told them they have no case in a right to work state.

Let me first off thank everybody for your responses to my posting on this subject. In answer to post#5, what right to work does is it essentally prohibits unions and big labor from requiring people to give money to those causes in order to get job.

Just to give you and idea of what your uniondues are paying for, it was estimated that upwarsds of 80% went for poltical purposes rather then for bargaining or helping the workers get benefits.

I'm sure a lot of you remember Don Adams and how he was roughed up by union thugs because he dared to protest X42 in Philadelphia. The DA who was bought and paid for by big labor trumped up charges against him even though he never fought back.

This is why you're seeing more and more people in forced unionism states choosing to live on their savings accounts and nest eggs rather than get a job. It's not that they're lazy or don't want to work, but if working means having to give to these kinds of outrageous causes, then they'd just assume live on their savings accounts and nest eggs.

Giving these people the right to work will give them the incentive to get change their routines and go find a job because it frees them from having to donate to causes and ideas they don't believe in as a condition of empoyment. It also gives business people the incentive to move in to the state and create jobs. No business wants to move into a state that allow big labor or other third party special interests to tell them who they can or can't hire. It's as simple as that.

My brother earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from one of the top engineering schools in the country. He was Navy ROTC. he then got a Masters in Nuclear Power Engineering and Nuclear Physics. He then got a PHD in Nuclear something or other. He spent 14 years as an officer in charge of the Nuclear engine on one of our subs. he has been teaching advanced Nuclear-related classes in the Navy for at least a dozen years. He trains workers at three nuclear power plants.

When he retired a few years ago and went into the reserves he didn't need a great big salary and wanted to teach in high school.

He applied at several local public schools and was told that he was not qualified to teach high school math or science and id he wanted to teach in the public schools he needed to go back to college for 2 years so he could learn how to teach. He was considering doing so when he received a letter from the state (or local ???) NEA.

Upon reading the letter which said that he was required to join the NEA to be eligible to teach at any of the local high schools, he got the job training workers at the Nuclear Power Plants and decided to never teach in the public schools. With no private high school with 30 miles of his home, it looks like he won't get a chance to teach until his own children are out of high school and he can move.

That is one of the problems with being required to join a union to get a specific job - there are many jobs that do not have options to allow workers to choose to work in a non union shop.
