The only reason he's in hot water in Kalifornia is that he violated the fire code. Had he taken it outside, he probably would be principal by now........

Apocryphal or not - teachers are not allowed to endanger students. In most districts, open flames in the classroom are not allowed unless cleared by the principal; even then, they are intended to be for science projects/candles/small flames. Large open flames endanger the building, endanger students, and could possibly set off asthma attacks in asthmatic children.

If this story is true, I'd suggest attacking this story from the point of endangerment and lack of regard for asthmatic/allergic children. I don't care what his supervisors think about his freedom of speech, they won't be able to defend him starting a large smoky fire in an enclosed classroom...
