Having read some of the threads on the "peaceniks" gearing up on college campi, and in liberal loony towns, I have come to some conclusions - aided by cogent comments from other FReepers.
1) We made a mistake during the Vietnam War, by ignoring and laughing at the "protest" movement until it became too big too ignore.
2) If you've read David Horowitz you know that the "anti-war" movement was really a "save my own sorry a** from combat" movement. Once the personal threat was removed, the so-called "anti-war" movement completely died out.
3) Peter Collier has likewise pointed out that the "anti-war" movement really turned into an "anti-American" movement in 1967/8 and the left has remained so ever since.
Therefore, I sense a great and historic opportunity looming out of this horrific attack on American soil. An opportunity that is unique, due to the Internet and especially due to the existence of FR. That is the opportunity to reverse 30 years of socialism/liberalism/anti-Americanism.
We have some advantages. With the advent of the Internet, the mass media no longer has a stranglehold on the news. They will no longer be able to present only one side, that of being sympathetic to the protesters. (We know it's only a matter of time until they will, unless we keep up the pressure.)
Also, FReepers are famous for their courage in taking it to the enemy camp. We've been able to round up thousands for combat, both on the streets and over email/fax and phone lines. I think we just need a coordinated response. Here's my ideas and please add to them!
1) We need a thread like the Condidit thread that will put together all of the reports of incidents like that company in Boca who tried to ban flags from their workplace. Once they're listed we hit them hard over the phone lines, etc. We publicize, widely, their actions and get them as much bad PR as possible. We try to get advertisers to pull out. We hit 'em hard, fast and furious. These "attacks" have been remarkably successful. So far, every company, library, etc. has retreated.
2) We gather incidents such as the "peace" marches onto this same thread. Those who are in the local area where these are being held are then commanded to hold a counter- protest. We have seen that even one FReeper, holding a sign in counter-protest, can make a difference.
3) If these events are being held at college campi, we try to schedule a counter-event. I'm way past college age, but couldn't we utilize the Young Republicans, or the Young America's Foundation? Many college campi now have some conservative newspapers and supposedly some conservative students. Can any of our college aged FReepers come up with some ideas?
Lastly, I am very concerned about the college situation. This is where the Left really made gains previously when the faculty basically surrendered without a shot. We all know that the campi have been completely infected over the last 30 years and that the bearded Marxists who compromise the faculty are going to do all that they can to utilize this situation in order to make further gains.
Here is where the battle will be fought, and here is where we need to counterattack and use this horrible event to bring our country together, not apart.
Antiwar.com's writers have been warning of the dangers of interventionism since our website was founded, and we have not exactly been lone voices in the wilderness in expressing our grave doubts as to the safety and permanence of the so-called Pax Americana. There have been plenty of warnings; the problem is that no one was listening. And now that we are all paying the price of empire now that the 5,000-plus victims of the 9/11 catastrophe have paid with their lives it seems the people of the United States are even less willing to listen, and, instead, are embarking on a course that could reap a whirlwind far more terrible than anyone dares to imagine. Samuel Huntington's thoughtful remarks would, in today's context, be considered nothing less than high treason, and dismissed out of hand by the frothy-mouthed pundits as proof positive of "anti-Americanism." There is irony aplenty in that, but we don't have time to contemplate the tragedy and stupidity of it: we can only look on, in awe and infinite sadness, as the nation barrels toward war.
Yeah, you're right. Peace sucks. Wasn't it cool the way those terrorists killed all those people? MORE BLOOD!! MORE BLOOD!! MORE BLOOD!! This is going to be soooo cool. I can't wait until we spill some more blood in the Middle East next. Whoopie!! This cycle of mindless violence stuff is really neat!! Bomb Afghanistan back to the stone age and let's thump our cheasts at those bastard "Liberals" while we're at it too.
Conservatives and conservative organizations will do a lot of the work on this, but the appeal should be broad and not targeted just to conservative groups. Even liberals, liberal groups and Hollywood types should be brought in.
No doubt some of you will think I am crazy and if so flame away, but remember the lefties have much more experience at this than we do. We can learn from their strategies and use those strategies to defeat them.
Economic sanctions, eh? Hmmm... thats a novel idea. We should hold back our money until these universities deploy their campus police squad in full riot gear to smash these meely mouthed little punks. Maybe we'll even get lucky and get another Kent State like scenerio. That outta teach 'em a lesson. Shoot the damn protesters!! Smash their skulls with riot battons or we won't give you one more red cent!! To hell with the 1st Ammendment. Let's make a mass grave by tossing the 1st Ammendment in with the 4th Ammendment. The American Constitution is just a stupid old piece of paper anyway.
All hail Freedonia!! We're going to war!
Are you in the service?
So you represent the lawnorder crowd?? Haven't seen much of you lately.
If you're refering to one of the branches of the American armed forces, then the answer is no.
