If we are at war with terrorism, why don't we spend a couple hundred billion (howeve much it takes) on civilian defenses to biological warfare? Is there a petition or movement to join for this?

That's one of the reasons I posted this. Our government needs to know that we know we're not prepared for such an event. There probably aren't enough vaccines out here in flyover country for us peons.

Thanks. Now I'll know what it is that kills me. :-/

I hope behind the scenes we are letting it be known that we have some pretty horrible weapons ourselves and will not hesitate to use them if we even suspect something like this is even considered. Stuff that would make them wish we had nuked them instead.

I am sure that the Bush administration has distributed to the short list of international dictators a list of likely targets for a few hundred kilotons and impressed upon them their own enlightened self-interest using every possible contact and means at their disposal to ensure that such events do not come to pass. As much as some of the folks might like to lay waste to New York and Washington, are they willing to sacrifice their capital cities and other principal population centers as well as their own hold on power to see this transpire? I doubt it.

While not impossible. The probability of Biological attack against humans is rather low. The reason: the organism can come back and bite the nation or group which releases the agent. Disease does not respect borders. More likely plant and animal pathogens will be used to create famine.

Wish I could stick around to read comments but have to run. Will be back later in the day.

We would never use them first, and they don't think like us. They think it can be won, and they think that we don't have the heart for it (by virtue of ideals and principles). If the conditions were right, I think they could destroy us and we would forego retaliation for fear of sealing the fate of the entire world. If they hit us with biologicals today, we would require knowledge of who did it before retaliation.

Possibly. Possibly not. That would be a new frontier. The Americans are calling for blood now, isolating and attacking Arab-Americans (right or wrong), rescue workers are not cowering in fear but standing in rubble sifting through body
parts...What would our response be if a bio agent was dispersed onto our population?
You see, I think we play the game to try and keep the genie in the bottle...once that genie is let loose-what would we have to lose? The worst would have already happened.

The administration has been hinting about the possible use of nuclear weapons in the past few days. I believe they are doing this to deter our enemies from using weapons of mass destruction.
