"Collateral damage" is what happens when civilians get in the way of a military attack. What happened in New York was deliberate targeting of civilians for no other reason than that they are Americans. If you can't see the difference, then you are a moral leper.

or it was a targeting of the financial/commercial infrastructure of the US, along with a targeting of the military infrastucture, as well as command (with the planned attacks on the white house AF1 etc..). Likewise the US has targeted the infrastucture of countries it attacked, note iraqui (and/or) serbian water, electrical, manufacturing (the yugo factory..), and, at least in the case of serbia, media.
