Gov. Ron DeSantis is preparing to run for the GOP’s 2028 presidential nomination, according to three people briefed on his plans, after his home state of Florida was one of the few conservative bastions to survive the Democrats’ sweeping midterm victory.
“Florida’s walls not being breached by the blue wave gives DeSantis more credibility than nearly anyone in the opening days of the 2028 primary,” said Dan Eberhart, a longtime Republican donor and energy executive, who served as a surrogate for DeSantis’s unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign.
Already, DeSantis has reached out to at least one national political consultant about working on his campaign, according to one person close to him, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. His federal super PAC also sent out a text this week to try to raise money, another step that signaled an intention to run to those who know him.
Allies say the governor sees an opening politically after voters resoundingly rejected the Trump agenda this week. DeSantis called the elections a “close to an extinction-level event for Republicans.”
“It’s the political equivalent of a meteor strike that went all around the United States, blue states, red states, everything in between,” DeSantis said at a news conference in Tallahassee.

excellent ... he has my vote ... unless he picks a female running mate ...
Thanks for posting this Compost article meant to trigger intramural fighting in the Republican ranks. Let’s see how many useful idiots take the bait and begin squabbling.
I’m ok with this, I want a rigorous primary. I think DeSantis has a good record.
So too does JD Vance and if he chooses to run Marco Rubio.
All of these are decent choices considering what Democrats will bring. They know the stakes here as well.
I like the idea of an assassination proof leadership line up.
Gotta be latino. We miss out on that crap.
There are going to be endless articles just like this—day after day, week after week, month after month—from a wide variety of outlets, in fact almost every outlet that we are permitted to post around here.
Are you going to blast each OP?
You won’t get much sleep.
Lol.
Maybe nobody’s gonna run...
Does Trump know something we don’t know?
We already know he's losing his marbles.
He’s by far the best choice of any politician in America.
How about a DeSantis / Rubio ticket?
Same state.
I like DeSantis so I hope he runs . I’ll vote for the candidate who is the most anti immigration
Unfortunately I think the anti illegal thing might be a negative with non whites who want to take over America.
No.
Maybe DeSantis/Gabbard.
Personally, I like Rubio. But the Iran War is a huge mistake.
He has my support as does Vance as does Rubio. I will make my choice in the primary. But I want a robust debate that calls out the democrats and gives us the plan.
As of now, it looks bleak. Without Texas, the math is bleak.
same he has my vote also, unless someone amazing I am not even aware of at the moment runs.
Same for me.
Excellent idea!
No thanks. Hoping I’ll be dead before Election Day 2028.
I think Sean Duffy would make an excellent VP choice. Tulsi would be a great Secretary of State.
Giant Meteor 2028.....Just End It All!
